I'm trying to wrap my melon around any possible justification or line of thinking for it, even if I would never agree. And I won't ever agree. But like ''what could they be thinking?''.

I definitely don't think it's anything mad like they're taking money out of the club, or asset stripping. They've put loads of money in since they arrived, and we've recouped very little. Even their most ardent critics would accept that there's been no shortage of investment.

I would imagine they're looking at Chelsea, Newcastle, Villa etc and clubs like that selling young talent and because we don't have big revenues from the stadium still, they're thinking we need to do the same.

But that completely misses the point and ignores the specific context. Newcastle and Villa have been forced into selling players because they spent so much and flew too close to the sun. It wasn't a choice. Newcastle had to sell Elliot Anderson. We're not in that position. We could move Beto, Patterson, Iroegbunam on for more than £40m combined and barely miss any of them.

Chelsea have so many players that their fans couldn't possibly even get properly attached to any of them, even if they wanted to. People are in and out the door constantly. It's not even really a football club in many ways. It's an experiment.

With us, we have produced just one superb academy talent in years. Everybody who's watched him inside and outside the club thinks he's going to the very top. He's already an excellent Prem player at 19. And we're an intensely passionate fanbase who love nothing more than producing our own players and seeing them do well for us. We're not unique in that aspect obviously, lots of clubs love doing that, but we are probably more intense than the vast majority of fanbases and the betrayal will not be forgiven.

Somebody inside the club who is proper Everton needs to sit Kinnear/other decision makers down very quickly and say ''listen, you don't wanna do this. You think fans will get over it and move on if the team does well overall, but trust me they won't. And it could get quite unpleasant for some of you''. Because that's the reality. Not a threat obviously, but that's the reality.
