You said selling your best players means that other young players won't sign for us, it was rightly pointed out that the likes of Brighton do that and young players still sign for them so you changed the it to be about "Well we don't want to be like Brighton".

Player trading and giving young players a platform to shine and get their big move is our only way to improve from where we are today - look at the likes of Bournemouth, Brighton, Brentford etc who have way less resources than us but outdo us regularly. If we can follow a similar model but as a bigger club with more resources that's our route back to the european places

It's not the simple.

We're in a position where to compete, we have to find talent at lower prices keep them for as long as we can, and sell them when we can get enough money to fuel multiple purchases that help us to continue moving forward. We can put a 'fuck off' price to keep people for longer and to maximise the benefits but at some point we will need to sell. Either they'll run out their contract or force a move some other way.

Eventually we'll reach a point where we can probably hang on to them for a bit longer, especially if we start qualifying for europe or reaching the odd final. Without sales of big players, we won't be able to compete with the clubs above us.

Villa and Newcastle have been on an upward trajectory for about five years now, including CL qualification, and they still can't hold on to their better players.
I doubt we can do much about it even if we wanted to keep certain players.
