Why can’t we build a squad capable of competing in this league?

Outside of a RB I don't know what people are expecting to see.

We aren't signing a striker unless Beto is sold.
We aren't signing a winger unless Ndiaye is sold.
We aren't signing a CM as we have loads of them.
We aren't signing a CB unless O'Brien is sold.
We aren't signing a LB unless Aznou is sold/goes on loan.
We aren't signing a GK unless Travers is sold.

Hopefully we are signing a RB but beyond that we've already got a really deep squad given that we aren't in Europe and Moyes doesn't use an extended squad anyway.

Maaaaaaybe we sprinkle a loan on if they're real quality (eg Grealish level)

Do we really still need to do that much business?

Yes we need a right back but if we bought a competent one would we be okay to go with what we've got for the season? We're well stocked across midfield and the flanks, passable up front if both our strikers repeat last season's tallies (Barry should better it) so that just leaves left back as the glaring weakness, but we aren't going to solve that in a few days.

I know Moyes will have us thinking we're well short in but I'm not sure we are that bad really. It is next summer we'll really have to sort the defence out.

I think the squad is in a really good place personally, or at least compared to probably the last 4 or so years.

Exciting wide players, a developing striker, midfield with energy and youthfulness, hopefully Branthwaite back and fit.

If we added in the much fabled new right back, and they were a good player then I'd say it's the best team we've had in many many years (maybe Ancelotti's season?).

There's things I'd like to change, Mykolenko being the main, but a long term successor to Tarks too... However looking at where we are now plus adding in say Munoz. Yeah think there's plenty of reason to be optimistic about the season ahead.

We have swapped McNeil for Johnson and Norgaard for Gana.
George replaced Grealish last January.

So Hackney. We've added one central midfielder to a squad that wasn't good/deep enough to play 38 games last season and get into the top half (1 point more than the previous two seasons. both of which started with Dyche at the helm by the way) or get past the 3rd round of a cup.

This is the squad we're all pretending to be happy with yeah?

We are very light in key areas not so if moyes puts faith in dibling Armstrong aznou etc light in defence and attack Beto really should be sold while there is some value same with Patto

I think we're heading in that direction, we just don't seem to be able get a full window right, or solve the most glaring problems effectively.

Atleast weve stopped signing people like siggurdson and bolasie for crazy fees.

I suppose if you’re generous a full season of useful minutes for Dibling, Armstrong, Rohl and Aznou would be different. If they’re more ready to step up after this last preseason. Obviously we saw a sprinkling of playing time last season, but not meaningfully over the full season.

If Moyes is willing to rotate.

Still imagine we get another 2 or 3 though myself.
