World Cup 2026
Re: World Cup 2026
VAR did something right re a handball in the NZ Belgium game, and the ref reversed his call.

Onana on for a short time and NZ scores against.
Big Rom on for one minute and bags.

Lots of poor teams playing last night.
Senegal running the score up might just keep them in it.
Will Austria and Algeria play out a mutually beneficial draw?
Croatia needing a point against Ghana, but Ghana needing a better result than England get to avoid Portugal/Colombia.
Its all very interesting tonight, but not interesting enough for me to stay up and watch.

Off topic but for some reason I'd always thought you were American, must have got that wrong somewhere down the lineblueToffee wrote: ↑Sat Jun 27, 2026 2:13 am Looks like we’d probably want DR Congo to win then to have them as opponents over Senegal?
Considering Senegal beat us recently I’d rather avoid them.
Re: World Cup 2026
"People always talk about injuries and availability, and to me it's so boring now," James told BC Radio 5 Live.
"I have one job, which is to be the best I can when I'm on the pitch. I understand the stigma at the start, but after a while it gets boring.
"I've been fit for a long time before my last injury, and I don't listen to too much noise.
"I just focus on myself and my body, trying to perform the best I can and help the team I'm playing in."

Re: World Cup 2026
As stupid and as useless as picking Henderson and wasting a CM spot now we could really do with giving Anderson and Rice a game off but only have Mainoo to bring in
Re: World Cup 2026
With Livramento going home injured, and James now injured it really does make the decision to not call up a full back to replace Livramento look even more bizarre.
I know Spence is decent and will likely now start at RB, but O'Reilly is questionable at LB against better opposition so makes a weak defence even more suspect.

Incredible scenes with Cape Verde.
Finishing second in that group is an incredible achievement for them.

Understandable, I probably mix up my spelling of certain words from time to time apart from anything else (or US autocorrect tries to step in). But yeah I’m English, although I’ve lived in the US for a while now.

Re: World Cup 2026
Thought James was really quite poor against Ghana, and was in part involved in some of the super wobbly moments. So on some level I don’t think he should have been starting anyhow, but what a weird choice it was not to bring TAA when that injury withdrawal happened. Or even Garner who can play there and cover for CM area too given Rice has also been having fitness issues. Maybe we’re going to do the Moyes thing and shove a CB out there?
Think the defence has looked so ropey last two games though, he needs to find something far more stable.
