It's not new.

- Ashley Young was well past his best.
- Neville wasn't great.
- Hibbert was solid but limited.
- Xavier was a centre back.
- Steve Watson was ok but technically limited, and often enough played in different positions.
- Jackson? Another who played better at CB?

Who else have we had since Stevens?

As we've been spoilt by Baines, Digne and Coleman as very good full backs in recent years, maybe expectations of easily and immediately securing a Coleman-esque quality is asking a bit much?

Munoz I'd take, Dumfries is out of our price range now. Name some that would suit us, improve us, and be within our price range.
Indeed, the only other right backs I remember we had included:

- Djibril Sidibe
- Lars Jacobsen
- Jonjoe Kenny
- Cuco Martina
- Alec Cleland
- Lucas Neill who really just played as a centre back
- Alessandro Pistone
- Tyias Browning

Then we used to play these players out of position at right back:

- Ben Godfrey
- Phil Jagielka (when he first joined before Moyes realised he performed best as a centre back)
- Dan Gosling
- Mason Holgate
- Matthew Pennington

Yeah Jackson wasn't too bad, cloudy memory but thought he had a reasonable cross on him for an out of position centre back.

Can we not craft a Nunes-type transition to RB out of one of the glut of midfielders we currently have?

Someone athletic with a good engine who can at least get up and down and then learn the defensive basics every day in training?

We’re going to have 2-3 central midfielders sat on the bench every game if they are all fit. Not sure which one might fit the bill but I suppose if we were going to do that then last season was your prime opportunity.

Not sure how you can class Steve Watson as not attacking

Pistone was a left back.

Hottiger was right back in those days.

Pistone was mostly a left back but could play right back.

Hottiger was way before Pistone's time with us, and barely played anyway.

He was a left back mate, he might have filled in a few times at RB but he was a left back

Who said he wasn't attacking, he played up front for a handful of games?

I did say he wasn't much beyond a decent = OK fullback. Nothing special and still nowhere near Coleman level.

Pistone was a right footed left back, just like Maldini

Pistone, he was that good we signed him twice.

I could be wrong but I think Tom Davies might have played a handful of times at right back, or at least switched there as a game progressed and subs were made or injuries picked up on the pitch

Pistone was too good looking to be a defender

Hey! I resemble that remark!

Allow me to take offence on behalf of all defenders. Some of us are very pretty! Me, Maldini (can you believe I just listed myself in the same sentence as Maldini - I’ve got goosebumps), Distin, ok I’m maybe struggling now, but there are a few of us!

Nesta was an absolute sex bomb, and Cannavaro had a glint in his eye.

Oh and Nigel Winterburn made me pregnant just by looking at me, and I’m barren.

Sergio Ramos and Gérard Piqué.
