I don’t get what’s going on.

When the Burnley decision came out they clearly briefed the media that it wouldn’t impact our summer business, when it obviously has.

What are the implications if we don’t make a big sale? A points deduction? A massive fine? Are there even any implications outside of not being able to bring anyone in?

If we do sell is that money being reinvested or is it banked, or paying off Burnley?

I find it hard to believe we’re in such financial hardship that we have to make this sale.

It’s as big a misstep as they could make if this goes through.

Plenty of other assets/players that could be sold if they need to raise funds. Not a local prospect who *could* have a 10 year career at the club and become captain. Who knows if that would happen but £40m doesn’t cut it for that prospect to be taken away.

This just doesn’t make any sense, like others I am trying to understand the mindset of the people in power at the club who are working on the sale and why we would sell an extremely promising English prospect for only £40m to a basket case of a club that was in a relegation battle last season.

The only thing I can think of is that they have underestimated or not been very transparent or honest about the club’s financial situation and we might be in a bit more trouble than what we know.

Apart from having a few senior players like Coleman and Gana leave at the end of their contract, we only lost McNeil but that was a swap deal for Johnson, so we’ve not sold any player yet.

I thought this window we were being quite smart with our business albeit quite underwhelming and unimaginative, but this and the Kenny Tete transfer…it’s almost as if a new team has been put in charge of transfers in the past 24 hours.

None of this makes sense. If you believe reports we were prepared to wait to buy Doue for a hefty fee yet now we are having to sell one of the Crown Jewels for a knock down price?

Unless we’ve just been unable to shift the deadwood? Maybe they thought Palace would come back in with £20m for McNeil? The likes of Tim, Patterson and Beto have been available this summer but there have been no takers, as yet. Maybe the transfer budget was built around Illy to Saudi? Moyes confirmed their interest but no bid materialised - maybe we’d factored-in that money for recruitment?

We can only speculate but it does feel like it’s out of necessity rather than want.
