Mykolenko
Re: Mykolenko
Genuinely don't see the point of pursuing a deal for Grealish if he is the intended starting left back for next season as it'll merely enable the opposition to double up against him, with Myko offering nothing. We'd be best binning Grealish off and going for someone with pace, like George and investing elsewhere

Re: Mykolenko
It’s become more noticeable that teams just let him have the ball when they play us, as they know he will pose no threat whatsoever and it’s to their benefit if he has the ball, especially if they are winning
When Bournemouth beat us at home 2-1 and O’Brien got sent off, even though they had a man advantage for the last half hour or whatever, they still didn’t think it was worth having any man closing Mykolenko down
Speaks volumes about how little threat he has going forward. I really hope the plan for the remainder of his contract is as a back up left back, or if we are changing to a back 3 then I’m sure he would be capable enough to be one of a back 3(and possibly more suited to that). He played there for Ukraine last week and kept a clean sheet

Re: Mykolenko
One of the worst players I've ever seen and he's going to end up with about 250 appearances for the club.
Re: Mykolenko
We've seen some absolute dross in the premier league era, but this lad is right up there from an actual footballing ability standpoint. It blows my mind every time he's on the ball that he's playing football in the premier league. He crosses with his left like a right-footed player that doesn't have any faith in his left but has no other option so just tries to control the broad direction of it. Every delivery is weak and floaty and poses almost zero risk whatsoever. Then, if he's forced to touch the ball with his right, you realise straight away he actually is left footed.
Nice lad, but he's way out of his depth at this level. For all those that say he's defensively sound - he's caught out of position sooo often at the back post. Makes the odd decent slidey, but you can find that in a player every Sunday morning in the park. Really poor player and the only reason why I'd have even entertained a new deal for him is if I knew we had a new left back coming in.

Re: Mykolenko
Honestly thought he was very raw but would kick on when we got him.
Hasn’t gotten any better at all.

Re: Mykolenko
Just don't know why people think we'd let a £20m asset leave on a free. Being annoyed he's been given a new contract is being annoyed at the club for not acting like complete business morons.
Be annoyed if he's starting every week next season, not for making a sensible business decision.

He’s not a £20m asset.AjaxAndy wrote: ↑Mon Jun 08, 2026 3:25 pm Just don't know why people think we'd let a £20m asset leave on a free. Being annoyed he's been given a new contract is being annoyed at the club for not acting like complete business morons.

We bought him for that, but he’s worth nowhere near that amount of money.
Re: Mykolenko
Because if he is here then he will play. Same with Keane. Both nowhere near good enough but still drawing a wage and filling a spot.AjaxAndy wrote: ↑Mon Jun 08, 2026 3:25 pm Just don't know why people think we'd let a £20m asset leave on a free. Re: Mykolenko
People will think this will work out well and we’ll sell him for decent money next year.
Same people who think he’s a brilliant one on one defender most probably.

Re: Mykolenko
I still think we would get our money back for him he isn’t near as bad as some make him out to be no baines or digne but still not useless

Really?
Re: Mykolenko
Just another season watching Mykolenko receiving the ball in the opposition half only to check back and play it to Michael Keane who squares it to Tarkowski, then the big hoof to give the ball away.
Which will we get first - a decent left back, or World War 3?

Re: Mykolenko
Ok so say he's a £10m asset (he's not but I'll humour you), you still don't let that walk out the door for free.
Let's not even then get in to how we'd then need to buy TWO new LBs instead of one which makes no financial sense whatsoever.
The playing Vs protecting an asset's value are two completely separate arguments that for some reason people can't appreciate.

That's assuming we would be looking to move him on.Kerryblueboy wrote: ↑Mon Jun 08, 2026 4:09 pm I still think we would get our money back for him he isn’t near as bad as some make him out to be no baines or digne but still not useless
I fear under this manager that he believes he's defensively competent enough to warrant a place in the starting 11.
