Re: Amadou Onana
Personally think it's a bit much to be saying all this stuff, and saying ''he wanted an instagram moment'' and all that.
Some people respond to severe pressure situations by trying to do the most relaxed, calm thing they can (in their mind), and often that works.
It was just a shit pen. Those slow pens always look worse if they are missed. If he'd smashed it over the bar at 100mph it wouldn't make it any better or worse and we'd be slagging him for having no composure.

Re: Amadou Onana
Disagree. If he thumps it over the bar then it's a young player who tried to step up but got unlucky/overawed.
His penalty tonight was complete arrogance. There's a hypocrisy in that if it goes in then the fans lap it up and everyone loves him but that's the point... he wanted the cherry on top of the icing on the cake. It was all about him in his head.
Needs to learn that he's not playing for Real Madrid and has proved absolutely nothing in his career.

Re: Amadou Onana
Yeah I agree, not digging the insta comments... Is he very active on insta? I have no idea but kinda feels a bit Pogba esque criticism because he did a Pogba type penalty.Bluedylan1 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 19, 2023 10:20 pm Personally think it's a bit much to be saying all this stuff, and saying ''he wanted an instagram moment'' and all that.

Was absolutely shit don't get me wrong, but I don't think he missed because of social media, just because he tried to stick to what his attitude is, which is relaxed and laid back... The problem is the penalty sucked beyond belief.
Re: Amadou Onana
What’s that got to do with his pen tonight, shit pen, mad shouts about Instagram, nothing more to see here.

I accept that you're pissed off. We all are. But I think you're projecting a lot of additional meaning onto what was essentially one kick of a ball.Shogun wrote: ↑Tue Dec 19, 2023 10:26 pm Disagree. If he thumps it over the bar then it's a young player who tried to step up but got unlucky/overawed.

There's no real difference between a thumped penalty, and a slow penalty either side of the keeper. Both can be effective, both can be shit. Many of the best takers favour that slower approach and are hugely successful with it. He got it badly wrong.
All the stuff about insta and Real Madrid feels a bit tabloidy to me.
Re: Amadou Onana
I know it sounds stupid i would have felt a bit better if he'd missed and then fulham scored to go through.
But to have a penalty to go through to a semi final and do that is a joke.
He's got some serious making up to do know.
Another sleepless night again now for me
I am fucking seething

Re: Amadou Onana
He's getting ripped on the radio, by the commentators let alone talk back.
And true if he's nervous or knows he doesn't take a good pen, then that's fine, but no way that's what you attempt. Absolute lack of professionalism. Dyche has a hard conversation to make.
The rest of the team do the right thing for the team. This highlights an overegged ego more than anything else.

Re: Amadou Onana
I just looked at his insta and can't see anything that backs up this idea tbh. Yes he's posted the odd photo from a match mixed in with loads of other stuff, but nothing to suggest he missed his penalty because he wanted a great insta pic.
Pretty baffling tbh.
I get people are angry though, so if it wasn't this it'd be something else, as he's opened himself up to it by doing such a stupid penalty. Don't agree there's anything in the insta thing though.
Re: Amadou Onana
I obviously don't think he did it for a cool instagram pic, it's the wider point. It's all about him and that has been abundantly clear since he arrived at the club. He's a talented player who has done very little to back up his attitude and tonight we've paid the price for that attitude. Hopefully it'll serve as a lesson in humility for him but I don't know how anyone can watch that penalty and have any sympathy for him tbh.AjaxAndy wrote: ↑Tue Dec 19, 2023 10:34 pm I just looked at his insta and can't see anything that backs up this idea tbh. The fact it was him of all people taking the 5th an deciding pen kind of says it all as well, I'd love to know how that was decided because he shouldn't have even been in the first 5.
A legend in his own head and personally I'll be happier when he's doing it for Man United or PSG and has made us a decent profit in the process. I know these type of players exist and some people love them but they're not for me.
Re: Amadou Onana
Put himself above the club doing that.
All about himself and looking cool.
Deserves all the stick he’s getting

Re: Amadou Onana
I don’t think it’s as black and white …
He wanted to be the cool guy, calm and collected penalty, taking us into a semi final
I’m 99% sure that in his mind, being the taker of the winning pen was more important than going through
Maybe I’m pissed off and gutted but I don’t care tbh.
It was awful and disappointing.

Re: Amadou Onana
Every penalty in a shoot out is one kick that will have a big influence on the result. Don't do anything that decreases your chances. I'm astounded at the amount of penalties I see like that one. If you play football for at least two hours every day I'm sure you can find a technique that gives the taker the biggest possible advantage.
