I struggle with the concept that Brands did well, how? Signed big players on huge contracts and made huge losses on them, Gomes, Allan, Godfrey, Mina, iwobi, Doucoure and Gbamin. The only one we made decent money on was Richarlison and he was signed by Silva, and obviously we will make a good return on Branthwaite. It wasnt a sane period at all, he spent circa £270m and recouped £144m, that was just transfer fees, not to mention the contracts afforded to Bernard and James

I get that transfers isnt everything you'd expect from a DoF as he oversees all aspects, such as the youth team, so im assuming we have had an abundance of youth players now coming through now as a result of the plans he implemented? Nope, its pretty much a graveyard as he employed Unsworth to oversee that!!

People will always argue 'well he wasnt allowed to do what he wanted', but does that make him good? Other DoFs, like Ashworth, just walk away from that. He didnt do anything you'd expect a DoF to do, and you can argue the whys all you want, but reality is his only contribution was taking a wage.

People seem to be attributing success with him based on what might've been, rather than what was, and I personally think the job Thelwell is doing is much more impressive than Brands, and even then id only give Thelwell 6 out of 10. This might be due to Moshiri not interfering and running out of money so hes allowed to get on with it, but I dont think its comparable when you review their time and their contribution to Everton.

Do we know for sure which of those signings where driven by him and which were other parts of the leadership team making their own signings? I checked out a bit during this period and didn't keep up with all the behind the scenes stuff, but I didn't think Allan and Iwobi were his choices.

He was a bit unlucky too. Gbamin had the type of injuries you can't legislate for, Godfrey was a gamble and showed lots of potential, and that sometimes doesn't pay off (we overpaid though), Mina is another one ruined by injury, not sure if that was his track record before us though.

Doucs probably counts as a success, we're almost always better with him in the team regardless of his failings.

I always got the feeling he had limited influence and wasn't able to make the decisions he wanted to make...but I have no idea now why I think that honestly.

Brands signed a load of shite and renewed a load of shite on massive wages. He did an awful job as did almost everyone else

Which 2 deals were blocked? Given we haven't had a pot to piss in from that time onwards

He renewed Keane and Holgate on a combined 150k a week though.

No one has done well. Almost every signing under almost every manager has been somewhere between average and a disaster. The list of brands signings is a list of shite with a couple of successes

No point debating this with you you ranted for 6 months on here about how Benitez only had money to sign gray there was deals in place for Dumfries and anguissa which Benitez blocked it’s common knowledge and brands has said so since he left

Where the he'll did that money go then?? Didn't they both end up at infinitely better sides than ours too?? Yeah the only reason dumfries is at champions league playing inter Milan is because benitez vetoed a deal for him.

Of course brands says things. They all do. Unfortunately there's enough blame for all of them.

Brands probably signed about 3 or 4 players that were a success here (I might be being kind) and the 2 big 1s richarlison and digne we made small profits on. He didn't do well. He oversaw 135 a week for gomes, 80 for Keane, 60 rising to 70 for Holgate, 220 for ancelotti, 200 for james, 200 for benitez

Now I fully understand some of them might not be his doing but then you do the decent thing and resign not take even more money to stay

It defies logic. We could have signed someone on loan who ended up at a much better team for actual money. Why?? Why would he choose us?? Why would his club accept a loan when someone else is offering money. There's no logic to the claim.

We tried to sign shearer and Alan Smith once upon a time
