The Moshiri era
Re: The Moshiri era
I knew we were in a very bad situation from quite early on tbh, like maybe Sig, Bolasie, Walcott? but the Benitez appointment was like oh this is a one way street, we are truly accelerating towards the wall now.
Re: The Moshiri era
Yeah, you could easily have the Benitez appointment as the craziest moment. The most hated manager in Liverpool's history and he goes and appoints him, talk about not understanding the club you own.
Re: The Moshiri era
I had red flags from the very start.
The Koeman and walsh appointments were so lazy, as was the recruitment in that first summer.
Then the second summer came and I knew we were fucked.
My only hope was that with all the money we were lashing about we’d sign enough decent players to get by and try to get one managerial appointment right.
The sliding doors moment was Moshiri going above everyone’s head to appoint Carlo when Moyes was done.
You see what Moyes did at west ham and you have to think that would have happened here, whilst letting Carlo spend another £100m that wasn’t recouped put us right in the hole.
Then to try and rectify that by appointing Benitez was the end game.

Yeah, Bolasie was the earliest red flag. Useful enough player but never worth what we paid.TheRam wrote: ↑Tue Dec 17, 2024 10:13 am I had red flags from the very start.

I lived in denial for those first two years expecting some kind of plan to emerge. Was tough to face up to the fact that our new owner didn’t have a clue so instantly.
Edit: Imagine what a player Deulofeu could have been had Moshiri not fucked up so instantly and aggressively with Koeman. I really think someone like Favre could’ve made something of the good pieces Martinez had acquired instead of attempting to replace them with experienced PL players exiting their primes like Koeman did.

Re: The Moshiri era
Best manager Dyche
Worst manager benitez
Best game maybe 1 nil against arsenal.
Worst maybe Bournemouth or drawing with Newcastle when it seemed impossible not to win
Best signing gueye
Worst.... what a list. Maybe gomes 135k a week
The whole moshiri era has been crazy. Almost every appointment and every signing has been wrong. He doesn't have a club and made important decisions on who he's heard of or on the say so of agents trying to empty his pockets
It's a minor miracle if we survive him without relegation or even worse

Re: The Moshiri era
Lookman just named African Player of the Year (and nominated for the Ballon D'Or).
What an atrocious waste of talent that was in the Moshiri era.

By all accounts, he saw the shit show for what it was and nothing could stop him from jumping ship.Bluedylan1 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 17, 2024 1:22 pm Lookman just named African Player of the Year (and nominated for the Ballon D'Or).

Re: The Moshiri era
In our defence it took lookman a lot of years and a lot of clubs for it to look like we'd made a big mistake
I think it's more worrying that very few actually went onto better things. It wasn't just the shitshow at the club that stopped them. We genuinely just signed awful players in the main

Re: The Moshiri era
What a great thread, but Jesus, reading through this makes you realise how bad we have been run, if you could actually use the word run! I’d forgotten about so much of what’s been posted. I’d actually felt sorry for Moshiri in a way, that he’d been too easily led and poorly advised by Kenwright and agents etc. but I’ll give him some slack as he’s delivered an outstanding new home.
But for the love of god, get him gone.

Re: The Moshiri era
Lookman was bad timing and maturity imo. After us, he did pretty poor at Leipzig, Fulham and Leicester, its not like he went on from us and tore it up everywhere. Hes had good success at Atlanta and fair play to him, but I think thats hard to pin on us, where in reality it happened a lot to himBluedylan1 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 17, 2024 1:22 pm Lookman just named African Player of the Year (and nominated for the Ballon D'Or).
