The selling club announce the full purchase fee (not counting add-ons) up front in year-one accounts.
It's only the buying club that jump through the amortisation hoops

You'd have to think Gana and Doucoure won't be with us much past this season, though.

Get him in and either have him around the first team with sub apps here and there, or loan him out, like we did with Branthwaite, and play him the season after when those 2 will likely have moved on.

The thing is with Gana is that he (and Douc) live the life that you would want a professional footballer to live. Despite the age of Gana, he is like a fine wine who I think can play for another 2-3 years at the top level. He is actually becoming better with age and experience. His positioning is better than it has ever been, and his reading of the game really is top notch. He knows when to press and when to sit better than he has ever done.

That gives the younger lad time to settle into the squad and perhaps even a short term loan, depending on what happens with Onana.

He’ll play as much or even more than Gomes did last season.

He’s 21 and played a full season in the championship.

He’s coming to be a part of the first team.

He won’t play much because of a soon to be 35yr DM, an attacking mid who doesn’t play in a centre two and James Garner?

Wow he’s gotta be dogshit

Villa's financial situation seems... fluid.

Maatsen to Villa, Duran to Chelsea.

Some sort of snide FFP stuff going on?

FFP practically encourages this by detaching itself from actual cash-flow.

The fact that you spread purchase fee over a contract but include all of the sale fee at once is ridiculous

Perhaps, but it'll be at least another 52 years before he's old enough to play full back for us.
