Yeah, there’s no smoke without fire. Teams enquire for players all the time and it doesn’t even come to light.

But this feels purposefully public and someone has gone directly to Ornstein etc.

And if Armstrong wasn’t at all interested, Forest wouldn’t be wasting their time persuading him. Personal terms are the first thing agreed.

Still think it’s miles off though, and after the uproar, I’d like to think the club will think twice about selling him.

I think it points to needing to bring money in to get the player(s) we want, and we have a few irons in the fire that are all being entertained... 40m for Armstrong is 40m profit and great for the regs. 20-25m for Beto is great for a player going into the last year of his contract but isn't as good on the books. 80m (?) is great for Ndiaye, both in terms of books and what it allows us to do, BUT it's losing our best (one of) player.

All of these moves have ramifications on what business we can do, and that's not even taking into consideration the moving parts at the other end (players we want and their clubs, and anyone else interested in them).

Fans can afford to think with emotions, actual player trading can't be done like that though - and we know that's even more the case when it comes to American sports 'franchises'. They run everything through the accounts, first and foremost.

Whatever happens, it will be devoid of emotion and be the most sensical financial option.

I hope it's the Beto deal, and I can live with the Ndiaye deal.

I haven't said I agree with it... but I can appreciate the process.

And to play Devil's Advocate, we don't know he doesn't want the move. As has already been said, clubs rarely pursue a deal they know a player isn't keen on. Agents will have already been spoken with, terms probably agreed.

If Everton sell Harrison Armstrong to Nottingham Forest, it is an affront to supporters and further evidence that the owners simply haven’t grasped what this is about. You don’t cash in on your best young homegrown talent 3 days before the window closes. It would be dreadful.

Forest would probably offer him money that eclipses what most of his team mates are on here and what Everton would never offer him.

We also don’t know if he has refused to discuss another contract or not and we probably need to ship a few out before we can offer him one on the money he wants.

Lots of variables to consider over us just selling our most promising talent in decades.
