I think that once we get a solid squad core that Moyes can trust and is happy with we can be a little more expressive in the transfer market. Taking a bit more risk.

We’re going to have to learn how to find untapped value outside the UK at some point if we ever want to do anything better than mid-table.

We did do that under Moyes the first time, although probably not as much as the teams that seem to really excel on that front. Arteta, Pienaar, Yobo, Mirallas, Fellaini. Plenty of duds as well though I guess, and some mad bastards too, we haven't had a drenthe or a Andy van der Meyde in a while.

We had jack grealish last year, puts them two amateurs to shame.
Can we guess how much roughly he's on? I heard he was on a massive wedge at Palace. Doubt he'd have dropped much.
I think he'll be a good signing but is he a £100k plus a week player? I don't think hardly any of our squad get £100k or above? Branthwaite, Pickford, Tarks maybe?
Hope it doesn't cause issues in the dressing room.
Think the recruitment team have pulled of an absolute blinder here.
McNeil just isn't a player that was going to contribute for us. He was basically a body in the squad, taking up space.
Even if Johnson is fairly decent, it'll be a huge uptick for us just from a contribution perspective. If we can help him rediscover his best form, even better.

According to most sources Pickford is on 150K, Tarkowski and Braithwaite 120K, KDH on 90K, Mykolenko, Garner and Keane on 80K. These are our top earners.
Brennan Johnson will be on somewhere between 100 and 110K. With 4,5 years left on his contract he would never accept to move with a wage cut.
If its correct that McNeil was on 25K as most sources says and we give Johnson a 4 year contract while McNeil only had 1 left the total extra outlay on salaries amount to approximately 20 M.
If he fails at Everton - he will be impossible to sell as no other clubs in and around or below us in the PL has players on 100K or over. Lets hope he makes it - its a huge risk...

There was a brilliant sprint race as part of the league cup in the late 80’s or early 90’s. The rumblelows sprint challenge I think it was called. The fastest player from each club would race against each other on the pitch. I remember Stuart Barlow being our representative a few times.
