Random article claims we're waiting until the end of the window to sign an RB, and that Hackney is considered a marquee signing and everyone loses heir minds

I mean it might be correct tbf, but also probably not. One thing is for certain though, that that writer knows exactly how to appeal to the doomsday mentality a lot on here have, so credit to them for knowing their audience!

As if anyone needs to make stuff up to appear to the doomsday mentality. Its been shite for a decade plus including last season under new ownership. Lets see evidence of something else and we wont readily believe negative stories

This is the massive disconnect, if you look at a lot of the clubs that are spending loads its due to their investment in youth. Chelsea and Villa are basically manipulating all the laws to enable outrages spending sprees, and they can do it. Chelsea are flipping loads of kids for huge money, we'd be lucky to get about 20p for some of our under 21s. Spurs just sold Lankshear to Middlesborough for a deal that could rise to 20m - id never even heard of him, its a huge market we are missing out on

Trading players, like with did with Dobbin and Tim enables some of this spending. What Moyes wants to do is lumber us with a load of 28+ players that prevent this type of trading. its more and more evidence that he isnt the man to take us forward (he never was, but its even more evident now!!)

The flip side is the transfer committee sign young players who arent very good. The likes of barry and dibling doesnt suggest they have the answer either

If the window closes and we haven’t signed a right back, with the club full well knowing that Seamus was leaving months ago, alongside Moyes hatred of Patterson, then someone senior needs to be sacked.

Whether that is someone in the management team or Moyes. It’s just not acceptable at the highest level.

They should have a list of well over 50 right backs gathered over the year, and should have been ready to make offers in early June when the window opened. We are now nearly in August and still no right back. It’s insane that we are having this conversation years down the line from when we first needed a RB.

Even if this club had £1bn to spend, I wouldn’t trust them with it

We obviously need to do more in a number of areas, but even with these giant transfers flying around like Anderson or Rogers at well over 100 mil, I’m actually not that jealous of those sort of deals as they just seem a bit…pedestrian..?

If you’re waiting for us to show “ambition” defined as spending huge sums, that’s just not the financial situation we’re in right now. Ambition for us means finding interesting players before they get to the PL usually. I’m interested to see what Hackney can do. I’m wondering if Armstrong, Rohl, Tim, Dibling and Aznou can provide options for us as it feels like we’ve barely seen most of them.

There is reason to be sour with certain positions like RB, but I do feel there are some areas of interest too..? Can we get to a pairing of Branthwaite and JOB perhaps. That might be good. Could Hackney provide more/different service to the strikers? Both look for those through balls.

Not trying to be contrary, but feels like the doom pendulum has maybe swung a bit too far here?

To be fair to moshiri the complete loon, he did want to go for it he just didn’t know how.

Everton are interested in Celtic and Canada Right Back Alistair Johnston. Fulham also have long term interest. However with a deal running until 2029 it would take a hefty offer for Celtic to sell

Is it bad that the thing I'm looking forward to most going into the season is the impending car crash that will result in Moyes going?

Bad really when thats the main thing to look forward too, especially when you consider they appointed him and will probably go down the Dyche/Fat Sam/Moyes approach for a replacement anyway.

I worry with any young RB that Moyes will hardly play him while he 'settles' and keep JOB there for height as much as anything (always remember the season of Lescott over Baines).

That's why I wasn't completely opposed to somebody like AWB who, yes, isn't young but isn't short either! And would almost certainly be a first pick allowing JOB to compete for CB - strengthening us in that position at least for no lowering of level at RB
