We're starting to build a good young team, and whilst some won't work out, there's something comforting about seeing us doing sensible business that should yield positive results on the pitch and down the line if and when we sell for large profits.

I know people will say Moyes won't use them etc, but thought it'd be good to focus on the positives of how we're clearly building in a more sustainable way than under the previous regime.

We’ve done basically zero new transfer business that makes me think “there’s absolutely no way that’ll be worth it” which is why I generally feel so calm about the club right now.

I think the worst stuff we’ve done has been contract renewals for players who aren’t good enough.

Feels great after wanting to bang my head into a wall every time a new rumour dropped under Moshiri.

Don’t know what season it’ll be or who’ll be coaching, but at some point, we’ll be back in Europe as long as the Friedkins stick with the group in terms of football strategy and don’t sell the club. Not everything has come off but we’re broadly making good decisions that should pay off in the not too distant future.

Easy to be discouraged by the way we finished but Bournemouth and Brighton have been making good decisions far longer than we have and Sunderland fluked it given their underlying performance.

Think we can be where Villa are in the near future. Just have to resist the temptation to max out the credit card on expensive loan signings and massive overpays for players from within the league when we get there.

I think so.

There’s still plenty of room for players who didn’t play well enough or do enough to get on the pitch last season to improve in year two. What we saw last season isn’t necessarily all they have to offer as they all showed something earlier in their career to suggest that they can be quality players at this level.

If they don’t improve or we already deem them not good enough, I don’t think the financial hit will be that bad on the sale. We’ll get plenty back to reinvest in players who hopefully are a better fit for us.

If we keep operating like this, good things will eventually happen.

Tbh I left Aznou out as he's an unknown and I wouldn't be surprised if he never played another minute for us.

The rest though either are regulars, have played decent minutes, or are Dibling.

I also forgot to mention I deliberately left out Tim and Charlie given they've been strongly linked with moves away.

I have high hopes for Dibling.

I’m somewhat encouraged by the rumour that we asked him to try CF.

His control and upper body strength are excellent and you know Moyes likes someone who can run the channels, hold off a defender, and give his teammates time to join the attack. That sort of player can be lethal with goal scorers on either side and behind him.

Maybe we don’t go back for Grealish. Maybe we sell out on some combo of Ndiaye, George, KDH, and Hackney running beyond a deep lying forward whose job is to hold the ball under pressure, release teammates, and arrive late in the box, sort of like Joelinton for Hoffenheim.

You can have all the potential talent in the world on the bench but if it never gets on the pitch it stagnates or regresses.

With all these current and former U20s / U21s we're looking to sign, or have signed, you wonder if Carsley (or someone like him) is the next in line to build, or continue to build from his time with them.

The non-English younger players are also the profiles that you'd expect could adapt pretty easily. I'd even be happy with Patterson and Aznou at WB if they both have a little extra protection. (I remember Garner and Patterson being exactly on the same wavelength in a game they played together a season or so ago, great pass and move instincts - shame it didnt continue)

They're all mobile and smart enough to do well.

A smattering of experience and strength, and I think it could be quite an exciting prospect in a year or two. Pickford's the right type of goalie for this setup too.

No doubt our new backroom staff have worked with good kids from Man United etc that we could look to pick up if available...

We could become club of choice for hungry players wanting to further their career (instead of those sitting on fat paychecks and not playing) I suspect it's this that has given George the intent to sign up.
