Honestly thought he’d struggle with expectations here.

Can you imagine that lot if he goes on one of his 8/9 game winless runs. Mind you they should be used to it after Arnie

Think it's a bit of a coin flip. Could go well, I mean it'd be hard to play less exciting football that Slot this past season...but it's maybe not a slam dunk either.

Feels like there is a bit of dearth of Pep (when he arrived at Man City) types who would be almost nailed on to do well managers at the moment who have proven to be able to handle everything going on at a top club with all that comes with managing the egos of top players, the usually crazy traveling around pre-season, regular season, multiple cups, Champions League involvement so quicker turn around between games, etc etc.

Probably why Mourinho is getting another crack at it at Real Madrid.

Hopefully it’s a repeat of the Hodgson appointment

Carragher and Professional Scouser Gareth Roberts on the Overlap saying they're not sure about Iraola and a bit worried about the direction the club is taking.

Carragher's main worry is that they haven't got players to play Iraola's pressing style - saying that Isak, Wirtz, McCallister etc aren't good pressers, whereas Bournemouth recruited specifically for a high intensity style for years. Also says it's a massive jump up for Iraola - never managed in Europe, never had to play high intensity style 3 games a week etc.

All legitimate concerns.

Yeah, all valid concerns.

It’s a strange appointment imo.

I don’t think he’s done anything in the game to warrant getting such a big job.

He was playing football manager on easy mode at Bournemouth. Here’s a load of high potential, young players who we can flip for double profit in a years time, and unless you’re a complete disaster you’ll have next to no expectations when it comes to results.

His record there is decent, but I don’t see a massive overachievement, considering the players he’s had bought for him.

There were some very bad runs of form during his time there, which hardly gets mentioned because it’s Bournemouth and nobody really cares. The fact I’ve seen a functioning alcoholic from Kettering who goes by the name Sean Dyche school him twice in the flesh raises a lot of concerns for me.

Yeah, we lost one of those games 3-2 in the end, but we should have had that well wrapped up.

He’s not going into a squad that’s ready to challenge either. It needs a huge amount of work and if he doesn’t get immediate results he’s going to be under a type of pressure he’s never experienced before.

I’m more than happy to see them make this type of appointment instead of going for Alonso, or making a big play for a manager like Enrique, or even someone like Emery.

These appointments at elite clubs very rarely work out.

2 games a week next season and cant afford any bad runs of defeats or draws like he experienced at bournemouth
can he cope with the pressure cooker that is the shite
hoping he starts off badly and flops then gerrard is brought in to try and steady the ship.......
