If I'm Moyes boss, then I'm giving him some pretty clear expectations in terms of progress that needs to be made next season. He's the 5th highest paid manager in the whole world, and another season of consolidation and no signs of overall improvement from where we are now would be unacceptable.

I didn't realise he was the 5th highest paid!

That can’t be true.

Just looked that up and apparently he gets £12.5m a year.

Tbf it would have cost us a lot more than that if we'd been relegated by appointing the wrong manager last season, so I don't mind it.

I think moving forward once he leaves then we need to be bringing this down substantially with the next appointment though.

Isn't Simeone on like £20m a year?

For me if Moyes has the same season next year we part ways. Hopefully with him going upstairs in some capacity.

I think a lot of people forget this is his first full season in charge of what was a mental team that was ran terribly.

Hopefully he can fill out the squad give us a few more options in the summer. Also Dibling and Aznou getting a full pre season Hopefully gets them integrated into the squad.

I get the impression the owners want to build foundations first and Moyes is the perfect manager for that.

I wouldn't have believed it, but most sources I can find seem to suggest it is the case.

I've found this season quite boring, don't know if it's not managing to get to many games or just that it's all been a bit rinse and repeat. It should have been a fun season with the new ground, new owners etc but there's been so many things that just seem to happen to us all the time, the odd decent result but also losing games we shouldn't, shite cup runs and early knock outs and all the hallmarks of Moyes mk1, all a bit boring and predictable even down the team selections and substitutions.

This is what you'll always get with Moyes though, yes he can adapt tactically to certain games but all said and done he's risk averse and will always revert to type and stick with the same players. I don't really get the argument that he's sticking to what works, it's not like we ever went on an decent winning run, we've only won back to back league games three times and so far this calendar year we've only 5 wins, our away form papered over a lot of cracks before it collapsed too.

I think these sites are calculating from the length of his contract, and not what he’s getting a year.

Not having he’s the 5th highest paid manager in the world.

I thought he was on £5m a year

The non cup runs kind of killed it for me as it was our only realistic chance of something exciting.

McNeil having an extended run in the team too is a Moyes special enthusiasm dampener.

On the possibility of finishing in a European spot: "It's amazing that we are actually talking about Everton possibly being in Europe with two games to go - and we're not out of it yet."

Amazing? Have we just been promoted to the big league after years in the lower leagues or something? Like Bournemouth, Brighton or Brentford?

Granted we've not had the best past few years but not sure why he has to make us feel like we should be grateful for even dreaming of away trips with a passport.

I agree with him. I think it is amazing.

Our net spend over the last 5 years is £12.13m. Our squad is still not fit for purpose. Multiple teams in the Championship have a higher net spend than that.

The teams immediately above and below us have the following net spend for the same period -

Bounemouth 6th - £128.76m
Brighton 7th - £0.53m (wow by the way)
Brentford 8th - £103.25m
Chelsea 9th - £643.81m
Fulham 11th - £143.36m
Sunderland 12th - £140.04m
Newcastle 13th - £430.61m
Palace 14th - £201.47m
Forest 15th - £328.86m
Leeds 16th - £75.4m
Spurs 17th - £578.86m
West Ham 18th - £317.1m

Apart from a few random outliers, money spent determines the positions teams finish. Moyes is significantly outperforming the vast majority of his peers in the league, with a squad that has a few good players but is still nowhere near good enough on the whole.

It is amazing that we're near Europe, and still have an outside chance of getting it with 2 games to go. I completely understand some of the issues people have with Moyes, but he's doing a brilliant job in relation to resources invested in the team.

That cant be right surely? AI says he is but have him on 250k a week plus bonuses which seems utterly ridiculous and has give me sport as the source. If you just type in what does he earn it comes up with 100k which seems much more likely
