Think the abiding memory of him trudging back against leeds, head down, not bothering to track the goalscorer adds a bit more pleasure at seeing him move on.

There was a time when he could be trusted to put a shift in for a very poor Everton side under Dyche, but that seems a million years ago now though. No hard feelings, fantastic deal for us ultimately.

Mad that he’s retained his price if this goes through.
Thought he was 14m?

He used to have endurance fitness for days, I think his injury has taken its toll on arguably his greatest asset (his engine)

TheRam wrote: Mon Feb 02, 2026 7:28 pm The point I’m making is I don’t think players like Dwight McNeil should be give credit for helping keep us up when it was signing players like him that got us down there in the first place.

We had a two year period where we significantly weakened our squad in near enough every area and McNeil was a part of that.

Not his fault, of course, but I look at players like McNeil as a reason why we were in trouble, not a reason why we got ourselves out of trouble.
I think he was a symptom of where we were as a club and him leaving is a sign of where we are going. Wish the lad well, he was a good signing for the shit team we were. If I had to describe his time with us it would be, "Served his purpose."

Yeah probably lost a bit of heart too, he must know his future is elsewhere.

Only just turned 26! Plenty of time for him to go again, wish him well.

Are we sure this is getting done? I won’t believe it until it’s actually happened. Absolute dreamland

The last thing he did for the club was not tracking back against Leeds and being hooked at HT. Good riddance.

Has looked a shell of a player for best part of 12 months.

Re: Dwight McNeil

He is the kind of player that has half decent stats when looking on a screen but the reality is far different. I reckon he has a high amount of sprints, high dribble success, decent cross etc

But they fail to consider is that he has no right foot. Or at least hasn’t for the best part of 12 months.

I wish Dwight the best of luck but £20m is utterly insane if it’s true. Fantastic business that I hope we get over the line

He was hideous under Lampard and Moyes but played some immense games under Dyche. Brighton away, Newcastle home. Unreal work rate and delivery, occasionally.

Proper wand of a left foot on him, but that's all. I've genuinely never seen anyone play for us in the prem that is that slow. I don't necessarily mean in terms of run speed, but you can see the cogs turning...every single touch, pass, shot is telegraphed...unreal. Can't help but think he'd be a real player if he moved outside of England to a slower league with more time on the ball, the technique is clearly there.

Yeah exactly this imo... We were a very poor team and he contributed some important moments and always seemed to give his all.

Sadly this season has seen his effort and productivity nose dive to awful prepositions, but doesn't mean he should be remembered in a bad light.

We're moving forwards and he wasn't going to be a part of that and hasn't shown anything this season to suggest we should be keeping him around. Wish him well at Palace but ultimately glad we're not going to be seeing him again in an Everton shirt.

Haha, same. I like looking at other team's forums too. The Forest one has been a right laugh since Dyche came in. You almost watch them go through the same motions we did.
