James Garner
Re: James Garner
I’m not arsed about wages nowt you can do about it…..it’s quality…performance….results and league position that I think abt….wages are what they are…..no one was shouting give the players a raise when we were winning leagues….cups and European trophies……

“Why are you arsed, it’s not your money”
As the club put itself on the verge of complete financial collapse.
As the club put itself on the verge of complete financial collapse.
Re: James Garner
I agree but it wasn’t about money at that time it was about not being able to play in Europe so players left and went to friggin rangers and the like…..Howard was also leaving…so the basic core of the team was broken up….however we were still spending big money for the time on players….

Re: James Garner
Although really it was heysel that did us in wasn’t it, no regular european football for that bunch of players was never going to cut it, plus our recruitment was patchy at best from 87 onwards
Re: James Garner
I can understand why your saying that TBH as that was the impression being printed by the press and rumour mongers when the actual fact was 777 loans/s were actually held up for some stage as being they were "owners" of other clubs and the premier league were uncomfortable with them hence the hold up....therefore 2+2 = 5....and it was a handy strap line for the doom merchants in the media to pick up on....but to say we were on the brink of fore closure is not correct..they even reported on more than one occasion we were going into admin...did that happen ?

Re: James Garner
We're not in a position to be spending money unmindfully, most clubs aren't. It doesn't seem an extreme wage in the wider top level footballing picture, but if we keep bumping up the wage bill eventually it will add pressure to keep progressing and finishing in Europe, going further in cup competitions, increasing revenue streams, etc to justify paying out a higher level of wages and balance the books.
To be helpful, I'm considering adding to the Garner contract funds and getting the 4th kit (that'll probably never be used again)...it's pretty nice

Re: James Garner
It's not 2+2=5, it's fact. The sale didn't go through due to them being involved in other clubs, the sale didn't go through because they couldn't get proof of funds or pass the PL owners and directors test so the PL wouldn't approve the takeover.4evablu wrote: ↑Mon Jan 26, 2026 4:01 pm I can understand why your saying that TBH as that was the impression being printed by the press and rumour mongers when the actual fact was 777 loans/s were actually held up for some stage as being they were "owners" of other clubs and the premier league were uncomfortable with them hence the hold up....therefore 2+2 = 5....and it was a handy strap line for the doom merchants in the media to pick up on....but to say we were on the brink of fore closure is not correct..they even reported on more than one occasion we were going into admin...did that happen ?
We avoided administration because we were taken over, not because we were in good financial health. You're in denial if you don't think we were in serious financial trouble while we were taking loans off 777.
Re: James Garner
i'm not in denial at all simple facts that can be researched..which i have done...i never stated "we were in good financial health"
The comments were "As the club put itself on the verge of complete financial collapse"...which it actually didn't as the running costs were being met from moshiri and and other sources....if you look deep into it you will see where these "other sources" were....
However, the simple fact was we weren't and didn't....

Re: James Garner
The 'other sources' were the 777 loans as our outgoings were more than our incomings and Moshiri wasn't putting in any money and hadn't done for a long time. The 777 loans were drying up as their finances became more pearilous and no one else would give us funding. The club was in serious financial trouble, your research should have been able to tell you all that, it's not rumour it's facts from well placed people.4evablu wrote: ↑Mon Jan 26, 2026 4:33 pm i'm not in denial at all simple facts that can be researched..which i have done...i never stated "we were in good financial health"
