As painful as it is to say it and as much as I hated the idea of getting them both in the first place, as things stand, Coufal and Souceck would improve us hugely.

We've got to the point where signing a man who plays football would improve our squad.

Coufal would’ve been fine.

We don’t need a Soucek at all. Literally anyone who sits at the base of the midfield and passes the ball competently will do.

Made this point before but neither Mangala nor Garner are anything special and both make us rock solid and extremely functional. The bar is not that high for prospective midfielders.

Why not go in for Mangala despite the injury? Not like he'll miss the whole season, plus we can likely get a bargain price.

Didn't get the mangala love in at all. Thought he was just okay

He's got a serious injury. What would be the bargain price given we'd have to agree to pay him for 4 or 5 years too. It would be another layer to our crazy to commit to him now. Plus he really wasn't that good

The injury probably did us a favor, we might’ve spent way too much money on him because we love falling for decent loanees.

Saying that, an okay midfielder who knows where to stand and can make the basic passes is really all we need.

I’d love to get a bit more but we can settle in a pinch. We would have played much better against Leeds with that sort of player taking the ball off the defense during build-ups and shielding the defense off it. Piroe gave us fits switching up between runs in behind and dropping deep to pick up the ball. A good DM enables the CBs to not even worry about the latter.

Think Moyes loves an extra bit of height in the centre of the pitch though. I'm surprised the Merlin Rohl rumours evaporated.

Had nearly 4 days now to get something done before Brighton. Not good enough.

The one positive of this transfer window is that we haven’t had anyone leave who we didn’t want out of the door.

Lots of clubs have had speculation around their best players, and we have avoided that, which is only a good thing.

Just a shame we haven’t been able to build on that and add meaningfully to the squad.

🗞️Everton remain confident on completing more signings this summer. There remains an acceptance that the squad needs strengthening at Right Back, Right Wing and Centre Midfield. Everton are also looking to extract value from the loan market
