Jack Grealish
Re: Jack Grealish
Said it too many times now but I think we could inflict some real misery on the rest of the league with Grealish and Ndiaye. Couple of horrible players to dispossess.
It’s not a best practice for building a team, you can’t chuck money away like this every summer and expect good long-term outcomes. But you can definitely do it once to give an exhausted fanbase a chance to appreciate a player who is from another planet in terms of quality, especially when that player isn’t a diva and works hard for the team.
If we turn around after this and throw a whole bunch of money at someone like McGinn, it might be time to feel some serious concern about the approach because that’s a lot of dead money spent. But most of the other rumors swirling around are young talents (Dibling, Lopy) and cheap squad fillers (Justin).
I would also say forget Brighton and Brentford as comps. Those owners are from the betting world and are quantitative by nature. I expect our way forward is more like Villa, buying up all the best young players we can get our hands on and occasionally augmenting with older quality.
Another footnote. With the exception of Aznou, who is mostly too young to say, the players we’ve added have been legitimately good statistically in recent seasons. This already puts them in contrast to players like Sigurdsson, who profiled as deeply mediocre at everything an attacking kid does besides free kicks and then delivered on that promise.

Re: Jack Grealish
Pretty mad if this does come off, never would have expected us to pull this off.
His game has never been based around pace, so if we can get him fit, free and happy, then it should be a fun season.
I'm an absolute mess for low socked ballers - him, Ndiaye, KDH, possibly Dibling all low socking it up front is the stuff of wet Cassius pants.

Re: Jack Grealish
I guess 13m isn't really that much I'm todays game. Wages wise it's barely anymore than we paid DCL and Holgate combined.
I do wonder if we'd be better off being brave and asking to take him on a free instead. Much more upside in that for us than a loan

Re: Jack Grealish
He's seeing out his £400k a week contract before he leaves on a free and then bags another signing on fee.777Kidnappings wrote: ↑Sun Aug 10, 2025 12:30 pm I guess 13m isn't really that much I'm todays game. Wages wise it's barely anymore than we paid DCL and Holgate combined.

And City won't be paying him up, they'll just loan him out and hope to cancel out his costs until it's up.

Re: Jack Grealish
He's on 300k a week. The problem is if he has a really good season they'll be wanting a fee for him next year and someone will be willing to pay it.
I wonder if we'd be better off with something more long term. 4 year contract 200k a week 10m signing on fee
City might be open to a free transfer because they are it appears willing to pay towards for at least half of his remaining contract
Grealish might be open to it because it's 50m over 4 years rather than 30 or 2
We should be open to it if we are confident he's still a top player
That might be a win win win at this point

Oh my bad, he's on £300k a week. You win!777Kidnappings wrote: ↑Sun Aug 10, 2025 12:44 pm He's on 300k a week. The problem is if he has a really good season they'll be wanting a fee for him next year and someone will be willing to pay it.

Re: Jack Grealish
It's what the cherry is on top of is my issue. Kicking the can down the road and sticking a cherry on top of a pile of shite isn't going to make it taste any better.Bluedylan1 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 10, 2025 11:59 am Obviously we would still need to address our other problems, like RW etc.
But Grealish is your cherry on top player, for a season. A bit of something extra to unlock a few teams in a part of the pitch we have struggled. You would imagine he might bring more out of other players too.
Yes it's only for a year, and you need to recruit again next year, but why's that a problem? It buys you that year, with all the new staff we've brought in to scout and recruit. We've had a massive job on this summer, and this just gives you some breathing room.
We absolutely have to follow a serious model for improvement, getting young players like Aznou, Barry, Alcaraz, hopefully Dibling and others, but you can make an exception for a player like Grealish who will just be noticeably better than everyone in the squad for a season long uplift. I genuinely don't see any negatives to it.
But listen, we've been force-fed gruel for years. If people are happy to have a minor splurge and enjoy some steak I am not going to begrudge and it's not a major major issue like buying him would be.
I'm a massive Grealish fan and I will enjoy watching him play for Everton if this happens.

Re: Jack Grealish
Insane amount of wages to cover but feel we need something genuinely exciting after 4 years of absolute drivel and uncertainty.
Let's see how it pans out. Don't expect this to be done soon like.

Re: Jack Grealish
Way to much risk. £50m on a player who is 30 years old in a month who has questions over his commitment.777Kidnappings wrote: ↑Sun Aug 10, 2025 12:44 pm He's on 300k a week. A loan is costly enough, if he does well and we can't afford to re-sign him so be it.

Oh joy, Bobble had said it’s getting closer
Same tool that most recently brought us Ashley Young has signed a new contract
Knows nothing
