Thierno Barry
Re: Thierno Barry
Out of the two Barry showed more although he got more minutes then Beto….beto was Beto…ran around chasing the ball which bounced off him on the 2 occasions it was played into him….barry can take it in and lay it off….which he did quite a few times….went past a defender a couple of times showing his pace……good effort on goal…..but the fluff shot was well what can ye say…..everything up to actually kicking the ball was good…..
My major concern again and again is why do we play with only 1 up front isolated….whether it’s Beto or Barry ye can’t do nothing on yer own against 3/4 defenders…..

Re: Thierno Barry
Beto always looks shit when he comes on as sub, only effective if he starts, and then that's not always the case too, but in general he's a lot better when on the pitch from the off.
Re: Thierno Barry
Thing is tho can ye play with Beto for 60/70 mins chasing a game with a better option on the bench ?

Re: Thierno Barry
Harsh to judge Beto on yesterday as by the time he was on our best midfield was gone and we didn’t have much of the ball

Re: Thierno Barry
I thought he did pretty well overall, was Barry’s best performance for us from what I’ve seen so far. He grew into the game as the first half went on and a lot was being asked of him
We need to remember with him that he’s young, its a league he’s not played in before and he needs to get used to his team mates
A lot of balls were played long to him in the air or in the channels so he had to do a lot of running and at times I thought he held it up or made a decent lay off and tried to bring others into play .
Our off the ball running needs to be much much better. A lot of times it felt like attacks slowed down due to total lack of options. This is one of the reasons we need more pace and width. Neither left or right mid was hugging the touchline so everyone was bunched up together centrally with no space to run into
O’Brien was probably our most threatening outball down the right and that isn’t his game at all (also not his fault)
A proper dynamic right hand side would make a dramatic difference I think, and Grealish on the left wouldn’t go amiss either

Re: Thierno Barry
Agree with this. He did miss a chance that Beto would have buried though.Toddacelli wrote: ↑Sat Aug 09, 2025 11:39 pm Possibly not quite as good in the air from long balls, but looked direct, tricky and made some really clever runs. Also it’s a small sample size but I’m gonna say his first touch is much better than Beto’s. Liked him a lot but needs more players to get in and around him - he was quite isolated at times.

Re: Thierno Barry
Can’t really judge him yet, but for someone who stats wise I think was winning 98% aerial challenges I did expect him to be a bit more combative in the air.
DCL had many a flaw, but being used to seeing him challenging and winning headers he had no right to, I expected a litttttle more of that sort of thing. DCL obviously a lot older though.

He was winning 98% aerials against Spaniards to be fair, they don't head the ball until they play an English team usually.blueToffee wrote: ↑Sun Aug 10, 2025 3:47 pm Can’t really judge him yet, but for someone who stats wise I think was winning 98% aerial challenges I did expect him to be a bit more combative in the air.

Re: Thierno Barry
How many of those have we seen Beto “bury”?
Tbf Barry should have at least made the keeper make a save…..to completely miss the ball I didn’t know whether to Laff or cry !!!

Re: Thierno Barry
Watching the replays back I'm pretty sure he bottled the shot and was trying to play it back across to whoever it was unmarked at the far post, who would have had an open goal. Either way it wasn't great, but there were definitely positive signs from his performance overall I thought - it'll just take a while as he continues his development though.
Re: Thierno Barry
Ye at the time I thght what’s he tried there ? Flick over the keeper with the wrong foot…..flick it past the keeper to square it across the box with the wrong foot….got caught in three minds what to do with what foot? Ha ha

Re: Thierno Barry
Not too arsed about the miss, did look caught in two minds tho yeah.
He looked good to me, a lot neater with his feet than id thought. Definitely different to Beto as well. Feel a lot more confident in him after that showing personally.

Re: Thierno Barry
Likes to drift about getting involved doesn’t he.
Loved that touch he had on the left where he flicked it over the full backs foot and powered on.
