Re: The Rebuild
I find it hard to tell from Fbref how the quality of the team or the league reflect on an individual players ratings considering Southampton were beyond shite.
On the other hand, I would like us to sign Dilane Bakwa based on his fbref profile alone and just let him cook

Re: The Rebuild
Clubs over pay for potential but I'm not sure we're the type of club who should be doing that. Paying 9 mil for our new LB is the market we should be in, good upside and if it goes sideways we've not spent huge money (and 30-35 is still a large investment for us).TheRam wrote: ↑Thu Jul 31, 2025 7:32 pm https://fbref.com/en/players/bdcc89ae/Tyler-Dibling
There’s a lot to work on like.

Re: The Rebuild
Nothing wrong with 27m for dibbling. Not opposed to a bit more but he's completely unproven at premier league level because he didn't produce anything. Got great potential but he's not worth that much more than 27m
Re: The Rebuild
Well we did ask for a bid and interest and we have one
No idea about the lad but I am sure he will want to be at PL level rather than at Southampton.

Re: The Rebuild
£27m on a player that Southampton publicly put a £100m price tag on 4 months ago. Regardless of what anyone else thinks he's worth, they're not going to go "Oh yeah, sound, deal." You'll do well to get him for £50m if that's their stance on him. So we're just wasting our time yet again.
This club is doing my head in.

Re: The Rebuild
No one is signing him for 50m. Definitely not now probably not ever (from southampton)Shogun wrote: ↑Thu Jul 31, 2025 7:43 pm £27m on a player that Southampton publicly put a £100m price tag on 4 months ago. They just won't sell him then.777Kidnappings wrote: ↑Thu Jul 31, 2025 7:49 pm No one is signing him for 50m. Definitely not now probably not ever (from southampton)

I don't rate the lad, but it's clear that Southampton do and you're wasting everybody's time bidding £27m for a player that the club slapped a £100m fee on 4 months ago. They knew they were going down when they did it, so nothing has changed.
Re: The Rebuild
I really like the players we are going for but we don't half fuck about. Time will tell whether it's shrewd negotiating with funds or not.

Everything is normalized to per 90 so subs often have inflated stats, especially attackers who come on chasing the match. Defensive stats will be elevated for players whose teams play without the ball a lot and depressed for players in high possession teams. That plus tactical considerations and other things I’m not mentioning or haven’t thought of.
Having said that, you do expect to see some residue of measurably good work on a player’s profile, especially for attackers.
Dibling has raw talent to work with and might produce in a quality team but I’m not taking the chance with limited funds and a desperate need for players who can contribute right away.
Re: The Rebuild
We deffo over paid for Bolasie, no doubt about it, not arguing that, as we did Sigurdsson at 45M.blueToffee wrote: ↑Thu Jul 31, 2025 7:29 pm I think that highlights how much we overpaid 8 or 9 years ago. I don't think it's too far off what's Dibling is worth but obviously prices are all over the map these days.
Talented player, but 19 and contributed 2 goals and 0 assists last season. I know they slapped a ridiculous valuation on him a few months ago but I don't think that needs to cloud a sensible valuation.
But it still goes to show the market for perceived top players, especially ones that are the main guys at said clubs that you can't really low ball and expect to get anywhere.
We still want value I understand that, but young English players come with a premium and always have.
We seem to be doing this with all our targets which is a strange tactic, fofana for 31.5 for example.
Hopefully we go back in and land Dibling, quite like him and he fits the bill of a prospect that could be flipped for profit, but as has been mentioned, it kinda feels like we are acting a bit like Man United last season.
Not every signing has to represent value and future profit. We have a very threadbare squad that needs both quality and numbers, it just seems this tactic we've adopted is quite frustrating and bizarre and as though we aren't really in tune with current market value of players.

Re: The Rebuild
You'd have to believe he was the second coming of messi to pay 100m for him after the season he had

Re: The Rebuild
It’s great the type of players we are targeting but my god are we so slow to get anything done the shite or Chelsea would have him signed before we even heard about it
