If he signs for Newcastle,.. I reckon its B. I reckon he's on reduced wage and I reckon the exact figure will not be forthcoming.

Nothing but the best of luck to him. If he gets what he wants and scores 20 goals in a season, that would be incredible and what an achievement it would be. If he is backing himself and a club takes a gamble and it pays off, well done them.

However the odds of this happening are beyond slim given what we know to be true. He has had 2 decent seasons, and then has had significant injury and fitness issues. His goalscoring record since those issues has been very poor.

Dyche tried everything to get him fit. Gave him months of rehab and training, but his body just couldn’t take it. And it doesn’t matter on the style of football. No matter who he plays for, he will get battered every game because it’s tough being a number 9.

But I do like DCL, and I don’t think he has deserved the way he career has panned out. There was a very talented striker in there a few years ago, but I’m doubtful if his body will ever let him reach those levels again for any sustained period of time.

I dont disagree, he genuinely strikes me as a lovely lad, someone who will be defined as more than just a footballer, I really do wish him well.

I remember pre-covid, pre DCL on the weights, watching him with my dad and saying "he could be great, he has everything but he is not a natural finisher".*or something like that. He just isn't. He's an over thinker. He is a bit like Walcott, if its an instinctive finish, then fine, but give him time to pick his spot and he will snatch at it or fluff his first touch. I dont think 8 years of full fitness would have changed that outcome, but... who knows.

I can understand why they're interested and I think it's a good move for both parties.

I also think he would potentially score a few if he got a couple of goals which he may well do with the likes of Barnes, Tonali, Gordon and Guimares supplying him. Strikers thrive or die on confidence and DCL looked completely devoid of it here once back playing regularly, not helped one but by the style of football or quality of chances we created for him.

He won't score bag fulls but I think there's more goals in there then he showed with us. If Newcastle can get that out of him and he stays fit it'll be a great signing, but it's not a given by any stretch. I think the reduced minutes would help him remain fit though and be available enough to help the team out.

Would be happy if he signed as I get to watch him play when I watch the Newcastle matches with my kid as regardless of his lack of goals in recent season's I've always really liked the bloke.
