Beto
Re: Beto
All that list shows is how poorly we've recruited not any positive about Beto.Matt1878 wrote: ↑Thu May 08, 2025 9:16 am Just for context, other strikers during and post Lukaku premier league games and (goals). If I missed any please let me know, didnt count "forwards" (gordon, james etc) just the big lumps up front. I counted Richarlison although he played a large proprtion on the left of DCL.
Arouna Kone 47 (6)
Samuel Eto 14 (3)
Oumar Niasse 35 (8)
Dominic Calvert-Lewin 236 (57)
Enner Valencia 21 (0)
Cenk Tosun 50 (9)
Sandro Ramirez 8 (0)
Moise Kean 32 (2)
Josh King 11 (0)
Salomon Rondon 27 (1)
Richarlison 135 (43)
Neal Maupay 29 (1)
Youssef Chermiti 20 (0)
Broja 10 (0)
Beto 57 (10)
Not many in that liat that made more of an impact than Beto. DCL and Richarlison aside, very slim pickings.
Given his improvement second half of the season, go all in on a new striker and keep Beto as back up for a season, then replace him in time, is my personal view.
It also doesn't take in to account his horrific all round play which pretty much cancels out the benefit of any goals he's scored.
Admittedly looking at that list he probably places top 5 but as mentioned not through any positives of him as a player.

He has scored 6 in 11 starts under Moyes. Yes his alround play is poor and you can't overlook his shortcomings, but equally you shouldn't disregard a goalscorer. DCL regularly winning flick ons and trapping a ball but never scoring didn't deliver a higher rate of goalscoring as a team.
I do want someone better as 1st choice next season too, but its stick or twist and he can have another season coming off the bench or covering injury no problem. There are other priorities in the first XI above Beto as a reserve striker.
Re: Beto
I think if he was built like Andy Johnson, he'd be more highly regarded. People wouldnt expect him to be great with his back to goal and he could focus more on finding space and running in behind which are his strengths.
Re: Beto
He's also missed numerous great chances including 4 or 5 one on ones, couldn't trap a bag of cement, heads the ball back towards his own goal instead of flicking it on, dives constantly despite being twice as strong as anyone jostling with him, and unless he scores offers absolutely nothing but hard work and bumping in to people whilst the ball rebounds off his shins 30 yards.Matt1878 wrote: ↑Thu May 08, 2025 11:45 am He has scored 6 in 11 starts under Moyes. The worst part is that he's even less effective when coming off the bench. It's not like he's some marauding wild card who can come on and cause bedlam, everything he's bad at is amplified when he comes on and has to quickly get up to speed with the game.
Beto should never be kept as a backup striker, DCL off the bench is a far better option.
Neither should be a starter but I know that's not what we're debating here.

Re: Beto
Personally I'd not sell to Leeds aside from silly money offers. He's scored 7 goals in 12 starts this season and half of that playing under Dyche (when he got a look in). Probably he gets as many as Liam Delap over a full season if played the same amount of minutes. You could say that didn't help Ipswich to avoid the drop but Leeds probably will be a stronger squad overall. Obviously he has weaker parts to his game, but there could be some argument that given more time he could adjust and improve as really it feels he's only had a proper run these past few months. I'm not trying to big him up too much but I would think twice before making that sort of deal as until proven otherwise all those 3 teams coming up are our rivals.
Also heavily depends on who we can bring in. Right now, for me with DCL likely leaving Beto is really our only striker capable of playing in the PL come next season. Chermiti should be out on loan. Are we really going to replace all our strikers in the summer? Seems unlikely given how expensive that is to do, plus how many top strikers are we really going to attract in our position?

Re: Beto
I don't think we need to worry about what Beto offers another team. Leeds might pass on him and easily find a better striker.
A goalscorer for sure but most teams at the top level won't be able to handle the poor aspects of his game for him to be a regular starter. DCL shouldn't be in the equation either. Simply, can we sell Beto and use any money received to make a better team?
He's never going to be a starter for us, and if he is then we're in trouble, so may as well make money on him whilst we can. It's not like he's full of potential.
