The Rebuild

Thought we could do with a thread to start bringing together some of what we’re hearing about for the summer. I heard a bit about a new sporting director (Weir) and we’ve talked about whether or not we should keep Branthwaite or if he’ll be needed to be sold to fund the rebuild. We have so many out of contract players. Anyway, some of the stuff for next year could go in the BMD thread, the Moyes thread, the Thelwell thread or individual players threads, but I thought it would be a more cohesive discussion in one place, multi-faceted as it is.

Paul Robinson on a podcast talking about Moyes being keen on Manor Solomon from Leeds:

Also mentions David Weir in this one too.

Hope we think differently under new owners this time. More promising young players from the championship and abroad and less marquee big names for the sake of it. One or two is something to get excited about but we've seen what happens when we just try and buy a winning team

I think for next season first and foremost we need to be extending Doucoure, Gueye and possibly Youngs deals.

Try and get Brainthwaite to sign a new contract.

Id imagine we will sign Lindstrom and Alcaraz.

Outside of that. We 100% need a LB, RB, and two pacey wingers as a starting point.

Players out of contract at end of season.

Calvert-Lewin
Doucourè
Keane
Gueye
Young
Coleman
Begovic
Virginia

End of Loan

Lindstrom
Mangala
Broja
Harrison
Alcaraz

Players Staying

Pickford
Branthwaite
Tarkowski
O'brien
Mykolenko
Patterson
Garner
Iroegbunam
McNeil
Ndiaye
Beto
Chermitti

Would give a new contract to Doucourè, Gueye and Coleman, POSSIBLY Calvert-Lewin but that's more likely to be dictated to by him.

As for the loans, on a personal level, would send Harrison, Mangala and Broja back and would sign Alacaraz and Lindstrom permanently.

I know we haven't seen a lot of Alacaraz and very little in terms of contributions from Lindstrom but still better than the alternatives, I reckon alcaraz will prove to be OK.

I liked mangala but question marks about his injury and also at the price quoted I'd rather we looked at a younger version of him with similar qualities than shell out. He's done OK though.

Would leave us ideally needing

LB
RB
CB
CM
RW/LW
Striker, possibly 2 to allow Chermitti out on loan and if Dom goes.

A lot of work

He has posted in support of Israel post Oct attacks, so just ripe for some extremely well informed and not at all impassioned convo on this here website.

Yeah best to avoid.

On another note ive noticed someone keeps bringing the Palestinian flag to games in lower Gwladys.

Who has? Paul Robinson?

Edit: Fuck me. Far more likely to be the Israeli player I just linked, right?

Yet you’d get arrested for trying to bring a Union Jack in.

Feels like this summer sees us finally rid of every bloated contract. Lots to do but almost a clean slate to do it on. Think anyone we want rid of now we could sell.

Keane and DCL to leave i'd imagine. Probably contract extensions for the others. Not sure about Lindstrom, unless the fee is around £10 million we'll probably be looking elsewhere, likewise with Harrison, has to be a modest fee.

Striker
Right winger
Right back
Left back
Two Central midfielders (one attacking)
Alcaraz

7 minimum in the summer.

I just hope we don't see 3 GKs on the bench.

Lots of interesting names there.

Wouldn't be surprised if we're in for any of Mitchell, Gomes, Tete, Walker-Pieters, Lamptey, Aina, Adama, Hughes, Schar, Messi, Neymar, Ronaldo

Walker-Peters makes a lot of sense.

A moyes style buy for me.

Adept at both LB and RB.
