Arteta's Arsenal
Arteta's Arsenal
It's one thing not being able to win the title against Pep's Man City but if they fail this season against Liverpool or Chelsea who are under new managers then does make his work at that club look less impressive? Especially is they don't win anything whatsoever.

Re: Arteta's Arsenal
Feels a bit like Spurs under Pochettino when they lost the race to Leicester. Not that they're out of it yet, but just feels a bit similar right now.
This is what they needed to happen to Man City, but so far they're 3rd place in what was supposed to be a 2 horse race.
I have a hard time being neutral on Arteta as I think he was a bit of a dick to us, but that said has done well to get them to a certain point. Easy to forget though they've spent a shit ton of money (almost 700 million I think I heard) and so far come up short, which usually is a stick to beat the manager with but he's not really been under too much pressure. In fairness they have made progress but as with Pochettino at Spurs, eventually people get sick of almost winning however unfair that may be with teams like Man City in the mix.
So yes, I think coming up short this year will actually start to bring true pressure on his position. That said, I don't rule them out right now they're a defensively solid team for the most part so I think they'll stay in the mix.

They could well emulate Poch's Spurs when they did manage to come 3rd in that two horse race with Leicester.blueToffee wrote: ↑Mon Dec 09, 2024 4:43 pm Feels a bit like Spurs under Pochettino when they lost the race to Leicester. In a world full of adversity, we must still dare to dream.

Comes across as a super rigid thinker and lacks any charisma. I think that can take you so far but ultimately it'll not translate in to success long term.
Pep has some of the characteristics Arteta displays but is a bit of a mad professor and it's that extra but of crazy / genius that sets real winners apart.
I know everyone disliked his 'I just wanted to harm myself' comment, but I could never imagine Arteta attacking himself physically because it wasn't going to plan. He'd still appear perfectly presented and talk in a drab tone that doesn't excite or interest anyone.

Out the FA Cup
2-0 down to Newcastle going to St James'
Dependent on Saka and set pieces.
Not looking great for Mikel all of a sudden.

Re: Arteta's Arsenal
Tried too much to be a budget pep hasn't he?
Gone far too long not signing a quality striker.
Tried the "false 9" approach with his squad because pep did it for ages, only he did it better.
Not done anywhere near good enough with what's spent and his footy is quite bland.

Arsenal fans love him though, I've spoken to a couple recently about him and they're full of praise for how he's turned the team around since Wenger left.
One did say though that he needs to sign a striker in the summer or questions will start being asked, but as it stands they're delighted with him and wouldn't want him to leave.

Yeah, one of my best mates is a huge Arsenal fan, lives in the old Highbury stadium and he still has a right nob on for him.AjaxAndy wrote: ↑Tue Mar 04, 2025 2:12 pm Arsenal fans love him though, I've spoken to a couple recently about him and they're full of praise for how he's turned the team around since Wenger left.
