Re: Pacqueta charged
A ban for life would maybe be harsh, but it shows they're taking it seriously.
He'd win that on appeal though I'd have thought, if it is said ban for life.

Re: Pacqueta charged
Seems fair to me. You can't be fixing any part of the game.
Arguably the conversation around this should be "Should you be able to bet on bookings in the first place if it is liable to be fixed so easily?"

Re: Pacqueta charged
Maybe rather than banning players for life, governing bodies could look at how the saturation of betting within their respective sports is having a detrimental impact on not only fans, but also their players. Just a thought, like.

Couldn't agree more. Gambling and gambling addiction are huge societal problems, and football has been in bed with gambling to the Nth degree and now they want to get all puritanical when it suits. Crazy to ban someone for life.

It’s the old “set an example” routine as he’s decent at a mid table club
If he was at United or the shite, no chance they’d be calling for a life ban

Re: Pacqueta charged
Absolutely should be banned for life if he's found guilty. He's been fixing part of the game for money
Infinitely worse than what toney did. Its actually criminal. People have ended up in prison for similar. Also its not a victimless crime either. People have lost bets for him to be able to win his
If he's found guilty I don't see him playing again given his age. 5 years would be lenient

Re: Pacqueta charged
Can of worms here, but does anyone seriously think multi millionaires are influence by gambling advertising in their sport? General public is a different matter but I don't think it influences top end players
Re: Pacqueta charged
Of course they are! There's plenty of gambling addiction within sports. Addiction doesn't discriminate. And even if we're talking about basic gambling and not addiction, again of course there is an influence. Sport is saturated... how is it not going to have an impact on those that live it 24/7?!
Re: Pacqueta charged
You only need to watch the JLloyd Samuel documentary on Netflix to see that's the case

I’d say they must be confident in the evidence they have, but then this is the FA and they might only have the word of Dave who was on holiday in Rio and overhead someone mention something about a yellow cardGash wrote: ↑Wed Mar 05, 2025 6:22 pm The hearing's this month, the FA are pushing for a lifetime ban.
