Pacqueta charged
Pacqueta charged
Not sure why it took until the end of the season...
The player has been charged with four breaches of FA Rule E5.1 in relation to his conduct in the club’s Premier League fixtures against Leicester City on 12 November 2022; Aston Villa on 12 March 2023; Leeds United on 21 May 2023; and AFC Bournemouth on 12 August 2023.
It’s alleged that he directly sought to influence the progress, conduct, or any other aspect of, or occurrence in these matches by intentionally seeking to receive a card from the referee for the improper purpose of affecting the betting market in order for one or more persons to profit from betting.
Lucas Paqueta has also been charged with two breaches of FA Rule F3 in respect of alleged failures to comply pursuant to FA Rule F2.

Re: Pacqueta charged
Deliberately getting booked to influence betting, isn’t that far more serious than just placing bets on matches that got Toney and Tonali long bans??

Re: Pacqueta charged
Scuppered any chance of a big move for himself, and given Lopetegui and West Ham a massive problem right at the start of his tenure. Long ban incoming.

Yeah you're getting towards match rigging. Would think he'd be looking at years rather than months if he's found guiltyCereal Killer wrote: ↑Thu May 23, 2024 3:30 pm Deliberately getting booked to influence betting, isn’t that far more serious than just placing bets on matches that got Toney and Tonali long bans??

Re: Pacqueta charged
Apparently some rather large bets were placed on him from accounts in Brazil. Started at 8to1 and were still backing it at 1to2
There's accounts that have just backed him to be booked and have never lost.
100% obvious he's done it and if found guilty that might be his career over. He could actually end up in prison
Absolutely moronic considering the money he earns

Re: Pacqueta charged
Not excusing it but you never know someone's motivations... Maybe he's being blackmailed, maybe gangs in Brazil have threatened his family if he didn't go along with it etc etc.777Kidnappings wrote: ↑Thu May 23, 2024 6:37 pm Apparently some rather large bets were placed on him from accounts in Brazil. Heard stuff before about South American gangs doing shit like this so wouldn't be surprised if it was for some reason along those lines.
He certainly doesn't need the money so motivation potentially comes from elsewhere.

Re: Pacqueta charged
Yep. Bad bad stuff this but this is the trouble with such obscure markets that the bookies have created. Fixing the result of a match while not completely impossible requires lots of different players to buy in to make it work.
These very individualised markets incentivise this and you can be absolutely certain Paqueta isn't the only one.

Re: Pacqueta charged
Also, years and years ago, I think it was Southampton and Le Tissier told a story about trying to fix the first throw in on a spread market and someone in the side didn't know about it and heroically kept the ball in when they had tried to belt it out straight from kick off.
Everyone just had a good laugh about it but in hindsight that was the start of this sort of stuff.
I'll happily admit to gambling on football but I don't go much further than win, lose draw and an occasional goalscorer or correct score bet.
Why markers exist on how many corners will occur in each half is just unfathomable to me but the very specific markets for a player are the bigger issue. They really do open up opportunities for corruption.

“In 2022 Stratford Town defender Kynan Isaac was banned for 10 years for his part in spot-fixing during an FA Cup tie in which it was alleged he deliberately got booked as part of a betting scheme with friends”

Re: Pacqueta charged
Still think it's a bit of a joke he was allowed to play the whole season, feels like they should have suspended him at some point whilst it was going on.
