Of course not. My point was, he’s run his contract down with hopes of a positive move somewhere, which probably we all hoped for (we needed a change, he needed a change), but not that he’s not showing what he can do and he’s had another injury, his options are gonna be really limited.

Will the teams that were in for him before still be interested? What sort of contract might he be offered?

Bad times for Dom. I wish they weren’t but I feel like this changes his prospects in a huge way. And because he is with us till the end of the season and because he’s had a lot of love here (and more than his fair share of shit as well tbf), and because this injury will put off potential suitors, and because we don’t always make the best recruitment decisions, I would not be surprised if he signed a new contract with us over the summer.

For me Dom looked like he had a new lease of life when Moyes took over, and I cant help but think Moyes kind of gave him an ultimatum and unfortunately it's led to over exertion.

And unfortunately for us we can't have our fully fit Dom and see him at 100% output too.

What sort of ultimatum do you think Moyes gave him ?

Perform or don't play pretty much.
He's said as much in his press conferences when asked about Dom.

That, and he was either deliberately curtailed, or limited his exertion and effort levels himself under Dyche, we'll probably never know the full extent of it until the autobiography comes out.

I do feel for Dom.

Not to sound too argumentative, but in what way?

Most managers range from demanding absolutely everything for the cause, at high risk to players, think Benitez, to a more careful and pragmatic approach to player management.

Dom would have felt the need to perform, whether or not he felt unleashed, but was asked to pull out all the stops by Moyes, given by what he insinuated in the press conference.

For me anyway.

Yeah I just found it an interesting theory that I wanted to give further thought to. Personally I thought Dom was giving his everything, no lack of effort just couldn’t score and I’m not sure you can give someone an “ultimatum” to score or else !
Anyway, just found your theory “interesting”

Understood. Yes probably too strong a word in the strict literal sense, meant it in a softer but still stern sense. I think Dyche would have perhaps expressed the idea to Dom, without being direct, where I sense Moyes would be really upfront, cut and dry, about the goals column. "If we provide opportunities, you'd better be knocking them in" type of approach. With those cold blue eyes and 'Moe from the Simpsons' disinterested but expectant pout.

He went off injured after 13 minutes jumping for the type of ball he goes for every game, he didn’t do anything different on the pitch in those 13 minutes, unless you mean in training?

I'm personally worried that this will really knock us.

I understand he hasn't scored, but we might have to completely change the system.

No. Apparently, the only thing he brings is that 3 goal haul. Nothing else at all.

It's not that he doesn't bring anything else, it's just that it's not like he's prime Drogba either where he has everything else in his locker and everything is played through him when we attack.

We're not dependent on him being on the pitch in order to play well imo and if we can replace him with someone who can bag more goals and readjust other areas of the team then I don't think he's that difficult a replacement.

E.g. Doucoure is terrible on the ball but he can play with DCL. I can't see how Doucoure and Beto play well together. It's up to the manager to find a solution to that and there are some better footballers to balance that area of the pitch.

Guess it comes down to how important you think Dom is to the way we play.
