My guess for why in no particular order

1) The standard massively dropped off at the top
2) No real jeopardy
3) No real superstars
3) Broadcasters ostracising any fans that don't support 6 teams
4) Punditry mess
5) Expensive as fuck
6) Illegal streaming more easily accessible

Imagine it’s mostly down to everything being decided by March.

People will always tune into the premier league in big numbers and as we get older, we should realise that the coverage of the game is tailored towards the younger generation who will still watch in their droves.

Yeah - never been a season like it for the title and all three relegation spots decided mathematically so early, and to all intents and purposes, well before that too.

They can bang on about the race for Europe but that is

A) miles less interesting to supporters of clubs not directly affected and
B) so contingent on cup results and other permutations that you can't really build up any tension of needing a specific position.

The last couple of months were unbelievably dull. It might not account for the entire drop but it certainly won't have helped.

Point 3 is interesting. It does feel like there is a bit of a dearth of exciting talent in the PL of late. Possibly in conjunction with the more rigid systems the managers are using we're seeing a bit of a reduction in the star players.

Sensible World of Soccer lied to me, had me believing there would be 3 stars in every team.
