What do you call this then.
I'd call that a very very small number of content creators being paid to promote Saudi Arabia, and I'd fully expect a few whoppers from any fanbase to do the same if they were paid enough... That's a big difference between 'their fans have been paid to promote Saudi Arabia' as if it's a large % of their fanbase. It's not even remotely representative and I'm sure if you really wanted to you could understand why your sweeping statements have little actual validity.

You won't because you don't want to, that's the crux of the matter.

You’re the one that said you don’t know a single fan who’s promoted Saudi even though it was posted in the first post ffs.

What's so disgraceful about their fans other than they're fans of a different club and football tribalism means other team's fans have to be always labelled as something unfavourable?
I think you know that I am talking about the Saudis stuff.

I am posting on a thread that Ram started which was about the SA issue.

But you know that.

I think the 'know' part is being used a bit fucking liberally here... I actually physically know dozens of Newcastle fans, which is what I'm referring too.

It seems here the 'know' part is some videos of a few bell end content creators who bare no relevance to the actual fan group of a club.

If you think content creators bare any relevance to anything then I'm not sure you understand how that industry works. They're all paid to promote something, golf club brand, hello fresh, Huel, Saudi Arabia... I watch loads of golf content creators, I doubt many would be loyal to the brand of clubs they're using were they not on some well paid sponsorship deal, in fact the way they jump from brand to brand shows it's nothing to do with the gear, it's the money they receive.

But yes all the Newcastle fans have cancelled their holidays this summer to Majorca and Tenerife and booked Rihyad instead because... Checks notes... 3 nomark ticktock idiots have received money from PIF to promote Saudi Arabia 🙄

I think you’re so wide of the mark on how these creators are being deployed.

There's about a million things wrong with the Saudi regime and football club ownership in this country in general and the direction of travel seems to be further away from where I'd like it to be.for certain.

I'm also amazed they haven't stumbled across a Geordie who's said "Saudi Arabia? Are you mental, we pride ourselves on taking our tops off in televised games when it's snowing, what the fuck would we want to be in Riyadh during the summer holidays for?"

The thing that genuinely worries me is despite us having had clubs owned by despotic states, Russian oligarchs, Greek mafia and the list goes on and on, the powers that be are more interested in PSR to protect the elite, than an actual fit and proper person's test. If the game misses out on a few billion because some common sense is applied on who can actually own a football club which is unlike most other businesses in that it dominates a locality and survives down the generations, then I think that is a good thing overall.

I love the game on the pitch and mixing with fans in the stands at all levels but the top level of administration in this country is rotten to the core.
In a world full of adversity, we must still dare to dream.

Why would they pay “not relatable” creators to hit a target audience. Your way of thinking will have makeup companies paying me to advertise lipgloss to the 22 year old women.

They will reach the target audience without a doubt. In this instance it’s sportswashing and you either have zero critical thinking skills or you’re being argumentative for the sake of it.

Of course they're going to pick the creators who they think will have the biggest reach, but do you really think thousands of Geordies are going to suddenly descend on Rihyad for the summer hols?

Again this isn't the fanbase that's doing anything wrong, it's a very small handful of content creators willing to accept cash for promotion. They aren't representative of anyone.

There's that divvy Scouse lass that people post videos from on here singing her awful songs, if someone threw £200k at her to do one promoting Saudi Arabia I'm sure she'd take it and it would in no way reflect our fanbase just because she was wearing an Everton kit and had a Scouse accent. If she refused someone else would take the cash, it's what they do... Bears fuck all relevance to the every day fan.

You’re being utterly ludicrous now.

I know how the industry works, thanks, and know this is the start of a very slippery slope for the club and its fanbase which is what the whole point of the thread was.

Chairman of PIF lifting the trophy on the pitch, popular fan accounts using the celebrations to promote Saudi Arabia. The whole thing stinks.

Anyway there’s always people standing up to it and protesting

https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/news/no ... 028618.amp
Where actually are these people though? Like when was the last protest? I'm not sure there's even 10 people in the picture of that second link.

Because if you're a Newcastle fan and you're not actively protesting against the Saudis, then you're supporting and strengthening the sportswashing project. There's no middle ground here.

Mate I’m not talking about an entire fanbase, just the sportswashing tactics. They of course will be gathering bookings here and there, but it’s the normalisation of them being part of fan culture that’s the medium and long term aim.
