The Newcastle thread
Re: The Newcastle thread
Yeah would be beyond happy if we won it, would expect an open top bus parade if we did, can't imagine anyone would be anything less than overjoyed with it. I'm 44 and my only memory of us winning anything is 95 and that was 30 years ago.... I desperately want that to change74Blue wrote: ↑Mon Mar 31, 2025 9:49 pm The League Cup (currently called the Carabao Cup) is a trophy that we've never won. Yes, it may have always been seen as a bit of a poor relation to the FA Cup, but I'd still be absolutely delighted to see Everton lift it. A day out at Wembley is a day out at Wembley, whatever the competition.

Re: The Newcastle thread
I'm not sure why you are making out everton fans wouldn't celebrate winning the league cup?
We celebrate getting a corner more than a lot of fans celebrate goals.
So no clue where this has come from?

Feel like you’re skirting around the real subject here.AjaxAndy wrote: ↑Mon Mar 31, 2025 9:17 pm That fans of other teams hate seeing teams that aren't their own winning something, especially when their own team hasn't done so for so long half don't even remember it happening.
I've said numerous times though I understand the ownership issues and feelings towards it, so I've always said that's a valid problem and people are right to bring it up.
Fans on the other hand should celebrate their team winning something, that's the tribal part that I referred to that people struggle with.
Re: The Newcastle thread
Read what Gash said and then you referred to them as a disgraceful fanbase just after which kinda reads as the same. What's so disgraceful about their fans other than they're fans of a different club and football tribalism means other team's fans have to be always labelled as something unfavourable?Audrey Horne wrote: ↑Tue Apr 01, 2025 6:52 am I'm not sure why you are making out everton fans wouldn't celebrate winning the league cup?

Re: The Newcastle thread
You’re ignoring the fact that fans have been paid to promote Saudi Arabia and desperately trying to change the subject.
You want everyone to forget about what’s going on Saudi Arabia and be happy for them.
That’s hard to do when the chairman of PIF is there holding the trophy on the pitch and fans are being paid to advertise Saudi Arabia.
This isn’t tribalism. This club that means so much to people is being taken away from them but that’s fine as long as the trophies keep rolling in.
You’re showing why sportswashing works.
Re: The Newcastle thread
I love how you always talk about their fans like you know them, yet you're probably talking about 1% of the actual fanbase and had the same happened to us you'd have had a similar number doing the sameTheRam wrote: ↑Tue Apr 01, 2025 7:08 am You’re ignoring the fact that fans have been paid to promote Saudi Arabia and desperately trying to change the subject.

You always like to ignore that I live up here and know an infinite amount more Newcastle fans than you do and I know their thoughts on the subject because I've spoken at length since the takeover about it.
Whether you want to admit it or not your views on the fanbase are just purely tribalism, but your views on the ownership and sports washing in football are bang on from that point of view.

Well and truly washed and hung out to dry. #toonarmy #visitsaudi #invited #paidpartnership
Re: The Newcastle thread
Go read any of their Saudi threads online in Newcastle forums and it's just pages and pages of whataboutery.

I’m very much discussing the Saudi side of things, other than the ghouls taking money to promote Saudi I’ve not mentioned the fans or how I feel about them celebrating.
I do think it’s grim how little pushback there’s been to the Saudis but I think over time that will slowly change.
Just because you live there doesn’t give you authority to override everyone’s opinion.
You don’t need to bathe in newcy brown to have an opinion on what’s happening there.
Re: The Newcastle thread
You keep referring to how the fans were paid to promote Saudi Arabia... I don't know a single one who has, it's this kind of broad sweeping statement that makes you look very ill informed.TheRam wrote: ↑Tue Apr 01, 2025 8:02 am How have you got this from anything I’ve posted in here?

But if you just want to talk about the Saudi regime owning a club then I'm 100% in agreement, should never have been allowed to happen and I was and still am very much against it. But we've already had this discussion so probably pointless redoing it all over again.
