The Newcastle thread
The Newcastle thread
Thought it would be a good idea to have a thread on these to see how it all turns out with the Saudis.
State of this.

Re: The Newcastle thread
For all the Saudis faults though, at least they didn't change the stadium name. Evil Mike Ashley.

"This fine stadium, with so many years of tradition - associated with iconic players, matches and moments in the history of football - should not be sullied by tasteless commercialism."
'Talk of a potential £10million per season is all well and good (though it appears Mike Ashley has re-branded the club for free) but we consider the name St James' Park to be intrinsic to our identity and therefore priceless."
"NUFC Fans United want to make it clear that once the team is on the pitch they will be our focus. However, the re-naming issue is not likely to disappear. Rest assured, there will be more ways in which fans, the people of Tyneside and their representatives will ensure that the name St James’ Park not only lives on, but also is celebrated, embraced and remains for another 120 years."

Re: The Newcastle thread
I don't know what's worse the shameless plugging of Saudi Arabia (honestly, we won't as a country have anything to do with the club) or the fact they keep proudly telling everyone it's been 70 years since they last won a trophy now that they've won the one above the EFL Trophy.
Re: The Newcastle thread
Genuinely a club that boils my piss more than any other.
Absolutely can't stand them.
Bang on about always filling their stadium when they are a one club city with their main rivals Sunderlands ground being 17 miles apart and separated by a City borderline.
Heart sank when the final was confirmed. Always happy to see the shite lose and it was a nice consolation prize but it's such a shame that the beneficiarys of a Liverpool loss had to be these twats. One of those extremely rare occasions where I actually think I'd have preferred a shite victory, due to how insignificant the trophy is.
Just avoided everything to do with them since the win. Big clubs don't go 70 years without winning anything of note and they have been relegated a few times during those years. Their fans are on par with that lot for levels of delusion and entitlement.
Sacked Robson because 5th wasn't good enough for them.
The take over situation has been done to death on here but it'd another layer added on.
Obviously can't knock their fans for celebrating and drinking it in, of course we would be doing the same.
Might be in the minority but they've always just been one of them clubs I really just dislike.
We have Cannock Pricey on here who for various reasons despises Villa, think the Tone proper hates Arsenal, Newcastle are just THAT club for me.
Be a painful time if they ever manage to get it right and hit a period of dominance.

Re: The Newcastle thread
They’ll win the lot eventually. It’s inevitable.
Over time, the sportswashing and promotion for Saudi Arabia will reach a point where a lot of their fans start to question if it’s all worth it.

Re: The Newcastle thread
I remember when West Ham won the Conference League and loads on here taking the piss out of their fans for being over the moon to have won something.
It's just a tribal thing though isn't it, same with this and people making out that a Caraboa Cup win isn't worth their fans being ecstatic to have broken a 70 year gap between trophies... I guarantee everyone on here would be equally as celebratory if we won either, I know I definitely would be.
They didn't win anything for 70 years domestically, we're at 30 years... I think we all know that's grim which ever way you slice it and we'd be dancing in the streets if we won anything and certainly wouldn't be underwhelmed by a Caraboa Cup or Conference League trophy.

Pretty grim isn’t it?
Re: The Newcastle thread
Some of it is or people wouldn't be mentioning that part.
Obviously ownership issues trumps everything so understand why people hate this happening and then people celebrating, even if the fans had no say in anything (but that argument has been made already and doesn't need rehashing tbf).
Re: The Newcastle thread
That fans of other teams hate seeing teams that aren't their own winning something, especially when their own team hasn't done so for so long half don't even remember it happening.
I've said numerous times though I understand the ownership issues and feelings towards it, so I've always said that's a valid problem and people are right to bring it up.
Fans on the other hand should celebrate their team winning something, that's the tribal part that I referred to that people struggle with.

Re: The Newcastle thread
The League Cup (currently called the Carabao Cup) is a trophy that we've never won. Yes, it may have always been seen as a bit of a poor relation to the FA Cup, but I'd still be absolutely delighted to see Everton lift it. A day out at Wembley is a day out at Wembley, whatever the competition.
