It's all about profit and loss, so it's not the absolute wage bill that's important, it's how it eats into our turnover, e.g. (old data because Swiss Ramble is now behind a paywall):

Everything costs more than it did 3 years ago, some things like electric and gas, considerably more, but the theshold for complience stayed the same.

No allowance for inflation, increasing interest rates, loss of revenue due to world wide events

Same season punishment is very iffy because as is panning out sactions are subject to apeals and after that legal proceedings ?

Start a full season with points deduction / fine / transfer ban or what ever at least there would be clarity for all involved

Tbf they have allowed a lot of losses to be written off due to covid, but that's all, no allowance for the Russian invasion etc.

But yeah the whole system is a joke and there's about 1000 different things wrong with it that hopefully our silk guy can use to pull apart their case.

Apparently lost a 200 million sponsorship due to Russian Ukrainian war. The fact that we haven't managed to secure a replacement at even half that price suggests we were getting fanciful with the accounts.

Yeah and we wrote off twice as much as anyone else due to Covid, so not really a surprise the premier league are desperate to hang us out to dry.

So we went from working with the Premier League and being transparent about our accounts and spending with them, roughly 12 months ago, to being charged twice by the, checks notes, Premier League?

It was longer than that wasn't it? Didn't we get the PL to clear us buying Mykolenko and Patterson? That's two years ago.

Was a bit naughty of Everton to invade Ukraine like that wasn't it.

I don't think we can take the moral high ground over our sponsorship losses, we were just well placed washing machine for Usmanov's money. It's one part of our books we don't anyone digging too deeply into.

We're going be so rich when we successfully sue the league for 100s of millions in damages.

Perhaps, but when we know that at the very least, one other club (but likely more) had also been doing it for years in broad daylight, completely without issue or sanction, it makes a mockery of the fit and proper test and any either rules and regs doesn't it? It's arguably condoning these practices which the league watch and allow to continue. So why shouldn't any club look at that and ask, "well if they're doing it why can't we?" That would actually be a true level playing field. The standard you walk past is the standard you accept, and condone.

As someone said somewhat similarly regarding Reading today, if the league can clear an owner and deem them fit and proper, then they must be able to remove that clearance if/when they believe that they're not.

With our away record invasion should be the last thing on our minds.
