Hoped he'd have had a bit more currency with the fan base tbh.
I think that’s a part of it but he’s got loads of credit in the bank for me. Like most players, goalkeepers go through rough patches but it’s highlighted more as it’s either a goal conceded or at best a near miss. On an England level it seems to be highlighted even further because his name is Jordan Pickford.

Unless Pickford really bombs I’d be very surprised if Henderson replaces him as he’s not managed it thus far, if it’s anyone it’ll likely be Trafford - if he can prove himself capable at PL level.

He's not doing anything he hasn't done his whole career, the great saves have always been there but so have the poor mistakes. It was probably just magnified because this season he had some truly world class saves and the come down from those coincided with the whole team having a poor end to the season, unfortunately he's also taken that form into the world cup.

Is it any surprise he's generally rock solid when behind a well organised and effective back 4, and when the defence is all over the place he becomes erratic?

His good form for us generally coincides with our defence being extremely solid, and when there's indecision across the backline he becomes more error prone and erratic... Think that'd be the case for most keepers.

When there's indecision in front of you it then causes you to have indecision, or be decisive but in the wrong way because you're trying hard to make up for someone else's shortcoming.

Unfortunately because it's Pickford the media will focus on his issues and not why he might be less solid than normal now we've gone from a very well organised defence under Southgate to a complete mess under Tuchel.

Don’t think goalies become erratic with a poor defensive line in front of them….more a case of being over exposed….
Take the cape Verdi goalie as an example…constantly over exposed…..but pulled off some great saves throughout their games…
I liked Joe harts explanation of the goal the other night….hit the nail on the head….

Was he over exposed though, or was it lots of shots against a low block?

It's like when people argued Dubravka was amazing but failed to understand he was being peppered with shots from 18 yards out constantly with that shooting player under heavy pressure.

There's a massive difference between shot stopping from hopeful efforts whilst under pressure, to a defence going walk about and causing indecision in everyone.

Hold up.

I will not have a word said against Martin Prince Dubravka.

If the defence is in a “low block” or gone “walkabout” makes no difference…..your goalkeeper is always your last line of defence!!
And he’s there to make saves…doesn’t mean he’s gone indecisive or erratic if he lets one in….indecisive is if he can’t make a decision say to punch or hold a cross….run out to meet a long ball and it’s a 1v1 situation etc…
Erratic is…for one example if he is coming out and flapping at crosses all the time for me….with Pickford his most erratic play is his kicking the ball out…it’s either very good….or not ie..goes too long or out of play…

Ok but all that shows you don't know much about goal keeping so I can't be arsed arguing with you about it.

If you think playing in behind of an organised and well structured low block is no different to chaotic disorganisation and players free to run through and shoot at will then you just don't understand the game.

I think this England defence is probably one of the best defences he’s ever played in.

Yeah absurd shout to say this is a good defence, it's been absolutely shocking.

Maybe individually they're good players but collectively it's been an shit show.

We've had a pretty damn good defensive record under Dyche and Moyes (apart from the last few games).

In terms of structure and defensive organisation we've been light years ahead of this England team.

Better players doesn't always make for a better defence.
