Just a human, honest response. No issue with it. It is a massive deal to play in that game when you grew up supporting one of the teams. I couldn't imagine how it would feel walking out at Goodison playing for Liverpool if I grew up a blue. Crazy emotions I'm sure.

I couldn't give a single fuck personally.

Every player grows up supporting someone, and it's not usually the team they play for unless they get very lucky and come through their youth ranks.

As long as the player is giving their all for the club then it really doesn't matter one bit.

Having not been on this thread for a while, this has confused me this morning. I was wondering why on earth Tim was getting pelters for this and thinking that's him and Garner then. Bloody hell.

On the Tim v Onana debate, initially I thought Tim was miles off it but he has improved massively. Still a bit rough round the edges but his trajectory is a lot more encouraging than I thought it would be 12 months ago.

My line to Villa fans has roughly been "it was a massive step up for him coming here but it shows what a good manager can do to be fair"

It's fine that some people don't care he said it and some people do.

He has been really fantastic in alot of games this season, and I am made up that he is performing well for us.

But I doubt I'll ever warm to him fully like I have with Ndiaye say, because of his comments.

Of course it's ok. Brap is embellishing though. The clip is there for all to watch.

I just think we as regular folk can't appreciate the enormity of playing matches as a premier league footballer.

Of all the kids in teams from the age of 6 onwards only a fraction of a percent will make an appearance as a professional footballer, even less a premier league one.

You go to matches as a kid, you hear and feel the atmosphere, and then one day you step on a pitch and experience it as a player. It's going to send shivers down your spine and feel completely insane.

My kid trains with Sunderland but he's a Newcastle fan, if he one day steps out at St James' for Sunderland and hears the Geordie faithful singing Blaydon Races I'd imagine it would be a sureal experience for him... It's just a normal human reaction.

I think we forget too easily that players are just young men, who until recently were boys standing on the terrace as a supporter of a given team. It's unfortunate when that team is your arch rival but it's also fairly common.

As long as they perform and give their all for the team then it really doesn't matter who they supported previously, or how that first experience of playing at the boyhood club's stadium felt.

I get football is tribal, and I understand people not liking it, but also having a boy with the same dreams, starting his journey towards maybe one day achieving the almost impossible, it really puts things in perspective for me.

Fuck that.

I don't want a midfielder saying he was off his game for 15 mins because he was in awe of ynwa in the derby.

I don't really care that he used to go the game. I don't want to have to use nuance and maturity to think he's a young lad who is a boyhood red so awwww of course he will be emotional at that shithouse song

I hate Liverpool and I would like all my players to be with it from the second the whistle goes.
