It's cool. They're going to get De Ligt anyway, and he'll continue to get lots of injuries and stink the gaffe up and we'll all laugh.

It's personal opinion isn't it, I think the value they offered is closer to his real value, based on ability and where he currently is, than ours. Now, fair play to us for putting this value on him and sticking to it, it's essentially a value that prices him out of the market unless someone is willing to pay way over the odds, which is probably what our intent was. Declan Rice was at the top of his game, a regular international and the valuation probably wasn't that far off for someone of his ability, but they still tried to get him cheaperGary1878 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 03, 2024 4:02 pm Yes but it's not as if Utd are circling and willing to pay the £75m/£80m price tag like Arsenal were with Rice.
Utd are behaving like vultures at a car boot sale when you first arrive and when you are still taking the first things out of the boot. And then offer you 10p for your best item that should cost £10.
You don't get to buy young players at a price based on current abilityRaptor wrote: ↑Wed Jul 03, 2024 4:56 pm It's personal opinion isn't it, I think the value they offered is closer to his real value, based on ability and where he currently is, than ours. What do you think his real value is?Raptor wrote: ↑Wed Jul 03, 2024 4:56 pm It's personal opinion isn't it, I think the value they offered is closer to his real value, based on ability and where he currently is, than ours. It's really subjective isn't it, I'm not saying I'm right by the way, it's just my opinion.

Bottom line is his value is what another team is willing to pay, and what we'll accept, just look what Chelsea paid for Fofana, who was never worth that, but Leicester still got it. But do I think he currently warrants becoming the 6th or 7th most expensive defender, if the rumoured 70 million is our price, no I don't.
He's done well, but he's also had a fair few ropey moments, he goes down too easily imo and plays for a low block team that essentially plays into his strengths.
I don't mind our approach of pricing him out of the market as you'd hope his value will only go up, but at the moment I think 50 would be top end
You're right, it's all subjective and I totally understand where you're coming from, it's very logical. Player values aren't always that logical.Raptor wrote: ↑Wed Jul 03, 2024 7:12 pm It's really subjective isn't it, I'm not saying I'm right by the way, it's just my opinion.

When you are looking to sign someone like Branthwaite, you are not just looking at how good he already is, but also how good he could potentially end up. Yes, it's absolutely 100% true that he is not yet the finished article, and there are a few little flaws in his game. However, for his age, he's very, very good indeed and just looks to be improving all the time. Centre halves tend to reach their absolute peak relatively late, so he's got all that scope for improvement. If you look at his development so far, the only logical conclusion that you can come to is that this lad is going to be a world class centre half, or at the very least extremely close to that level. For a player with such talent and so much time to continue to develop, it simply has to be an eye-watering offer.Raptor wrote: ↑Wed Jul 03, 2024 7:12 pm It's really subjective isn't it, I'm not saying I'm right by the way, it's just my opinion.
