Romano seems to be lowering the price every tweet, obviously getting his information entirely from Man United sources.

I don't think this will happen.

It's hilarious when someone threatens to move on from something you don't want to happen.

''I'll stop make derisory offers for your best player, if you're not careful''

''Erm...ok''.

Smacks of arrogance, the sort where they forget they are (were) at the top of the food chain having plucked talent cheap from anywhere they've wanted to over the last few decades.

Then again, who's to know whether the comments are correct, as there doesn't appear to be any direct quotes from their management, just massage-by-media.

My only worry is that their position comes from having had talks with the player and him being keen. If so it could get messy.

I still shudder to think about Lescott’s last game when he’d had his head turned by City. Played like he was concussed or something.

Doubt Branthwaite would be like that but could this be where their arrogance is coming from?

Their fans on their forum are ridiculous. Saw 1 claim he's only worth 25m. Loads think it's a fair bid and they are loving the new approach to signings (even though they have to fine someone daft enough to take 50% or it's meaningless) They are acting like they are trying to help us out with ffp

Their whole approach is off. There's no such thing as a Utd tax and deciding you just aren't going to pay the market value only works if you then target unknown players instead. You can't just offer less and expect it to work

Were they allowed to tap him up and agree personal terms without our permission ?

With the United tax it would be £100m+

£75m with ad ons is just the market rate. Sorry Jim :)

It’s nothing to do with United. He is worth what he is worth, and that’s near £80m, similar to Gvardiol. They either want to pay it or they don't.

If you can find the same talent for £35m elsewhere, then good luck. But I doubt that will be the case.

Yeah Fofana went for £80m as well, it’s not an outrageous price at all.

Are those people willing to pay what he's worth though?

Was hoping Ancelloti might come in for him.

They'll hopefully pay the asking price and he will flourish there.
