Be annoyed if he's starting every week next season, not for making a sensible business decision.
I’m going to choose to try and be positive here.
He’s probably a £10m asset who we can sell down the line, and keeping him as our back up option will allow us to send Aznou on loan for game time whilst our new amazing LB (to be signed) starts majority of matches

We'd get £20m from a newly promoted team, I don't even think that's an outrageous number for a player with his premier league experience.

Because if he is here then he will play. Same with Keane. Both nowhere near good enough but still drawing a wage and filling a spot.
I understand that point of view, but it's also a separate argument.
At present we have one left back, and just letting him leave for free would be about as stupid as we could be.
At the very least we need to buy a starting LB. Then a year down the line sell Myko and bring in a new backup.
If we start Myko next season that's not a poor business decision still, it's a really poor squad building decision.
If we start the season with only one LB again that's also a shit squad building decision.
Retaining a player we can sell for half decent money, even if it were £15m would be really really stupid. Especially as his amortisation of transfer is now zero, so anything we did sell him for would be pure profit.

You don't give someone an extra 3 years to protect their value when they're as crap as Mykolenko. You give him ,2 years at most. He's 100% going to be starting LB next season.
We probably won't shift him when he eventually does stop being a starter because of the contract. He'll probably wait it out and go on loan instead. Might get £5m for him towards the end.
A 3 year contract for a player that would probably only get picked for Hull in this league.

People seem to forget we have to actually pay this fella and by the time his contract is up that will be a lot of money wasted on a player who is rubbish.
The idea that we give him a contract and sell him on for decent money in a year is nice. The reality is we have be up sending him on loan or just persist with him at left back as we’re a club that loves making do with whatever we have instead of making good decisions.

In theory it makes sense to give him a deal but, let's not pretend he's not going to be starting the majority of games which just doesn't move us on. Wouldn't be as bothered if we buy a boss right back but that isn't looking massively likely.

What 27 year old accepts a 2 year extension? He'd have just signed elsewhere if we'd done that.
Maybe we'll shift him down the line, maybe we won't. If we do though it'll be for more than if we'd not resigned him.

Huge waste of money for a club that’s a bit light. I’d have let his sit on the bench for a year as backup and bought a proper left back. Then worry about the next backup player when we need to after he signs for like Cardiff on a free next year.
We’ve sunk enough money on this mope already. He’s proven he’s not up to it time and time again. He’s taking the wages of an actual fullback we could be playing and he’s going to leave on a free in 3yrs anyway.
Complete waste of time and money by possibly the least ambitious club in the premier league.

I guarantee you Mykolenko does not get a better deal than 3 years (1 remaining plus 2 year extension) at Everton. No other Premier League team would go for him. He doesn't get this money anywhere else.

He will be starting next season at left back along with Tarky and O'Brien, remains to be seen who the right back will be.
We'll see more of Myko being exposed in the air and being beaten at crosses.
That defence is already looking hilarious.
Hopefully the club are ironing out the finer details of McNeils extension now.

If Russia hadnt invaded Ukraine we'd have sold him back to Kyiv for a £15m loss 2 years ago.
