The nuts thing about that is how much the big Forest forum on the internet defends him to the hilt.

In the immortal words of Harry Redknapp:
“You think the fans wouldn’t love him there? If you go in there and start winning, they would have taken Saddam Hussein in there when he was about, the fans don’t give a monkey's! If you start winning every week, they’re singing ‘there’s only one Saddam’.”

It never ceases to amaze me the amount of people who commit career suicide just to try and be controversial and think they're some sort of intelligent, forward thinker. Bellends like Barton, Fox, Le Tissier etc and then their followers who are similarly minded, usually male, middle aged, white bellends.

We live in a time where every second of human attention is up for grabs and one of the easiest ways to get it is to say incendiary things.
Their status as former pro footballers gives them a higher platform to command that cheap attention from.
It’s an easy grift and they know it. There are no real consequences for using your platform to spew hateful or divisive opinions anymore. It doesn’t protect you from the consequences of being a cunt in your personal life, though.

My hunch is that it's got to do with how as a white male, especially someone with a bit of fame, you're used to being culturally relevant in some way. And suddenly you're past 40 and realise culture has moved on, you are no longer setting trends, what you say or think is outmoded and outdated and it's a younger generation determining what the hot new thing is, and nobody gives a shit about what you or your uncool middle-aged mates think about it.
It's a painful realisation but most of us can deal with it in one way or another. These bellends could not.
