I agree with the give him time etc, but we ain't scoring enough goals with what we have. We should have tried to buy a goal ready striker and looked at potential later on

We should have enough to be safe anyway, let's just put our faith in the lad and develop him.

It's all going to go 'a bit Kean' if we aren't careful. I think he shows promise, and his involvement seems to create space for others. He is not the finished article, but we were never going to get a complete player in this age profile and price.

Good goalkeeping coach back in the day so can see moyes wanting to get him back in as they’ve worked together before.

Honestly if he just worked a bit harder off the ball I'd give him a starting spot every week to let the rest develop.

Hard to get in to a game if you're never really buzzing about putting pressure on people and contesting physical battles.

If he can start doing that and giving the CBs a harder time he'd get a lot of leeway with other stuff he's a bit raw at.

Is there a template in this league of how to develop a player like this? Does it even work? Or should they be out on loan smashing the nets in a lower English league before they are Prem-ready?

Won't be a popular opinion but having someone like Big Dunc on the coaching staff specifically for players like Barry would help... The work he did with Anichebe to turn him in to a great hold up player was very noticeable.

Doesn't have to be Dunc specifically, but someone skilled in teaching shielding, physical duels, hold up play as a specialised skillset.

I can not think of many young strikers (9’s) in the Prem. Evan Ferguson, Liam Delap, Rasmus Hojlund?

This is why I was asking about other teams who had successfully done it before.

There may be some elite young strikers who can walk right in occasionally, but developing a young number 9 during a Premier League season is a tough ask.

Our best hope is if one of the big boys have a surplus they are willing to let go out on loan and during the loan they decide we could be a decent option.
Replicate how we ended up with Lukaku.
Otherwise we are just taking gamble after gamble and we have no track record of finding and developing strikers.

Have we any record at all of developing any sort of classy strikers? I can't really think of any in my lifetime.

Rooney was a freak and didn't really need developing.
