Yeah, that is puzzling, we've started do a bit of a shit half press.Kerryblueboy wrote: ↑Mon Nov 25, 2024 11:01 am Why have we stopped pressing from the front like we did at the end of last season worked well we can’t just sit back and let better teams have the ball

Re: Dyche
Re: Dyche
It's been a season of missed opportunities for Dyche that would have made a massive difference to the perception of him had we / he taken them.
We absolutely should have beaten Bournemouth, I think that result will haunt him more than any other before or since.
We did enough to beat Southampton but we didn't do enough to guarantee we beat them, but even then a draw should have been the absolute minimum we took.
We should have beaten Brentford but he was too worried about being caught on the counter to be aggressive in how we approached the second half... It cost us 2 points.
You take those 3 extra from Bournemouth, 2 more from Brentford and add a point in against Southampton and that would have put us on another 6 points and joint 11th with Brentford and one place above Man UTD. It would have made a world of difference to his standing amongst fans and probably kept him in the job until the summer.
These are the games where things went for us last season but this one they haven't, and I think everyone can point to Dyche for being the main reason in all (although I'd argue 50% the players and 50% Dyche for Bournemouth).
Last season we would have beaten Bournemouth, got a set piece goal against Southampton that wins us the match... We probably still draw against Brentford in all fairness but maybe not with another set piece goal.
Anyway the main point is that as a manager there will be pivotal moments that you either come out on top of or don't, and there's been a collection now this season where we haven't. The drab footy and draws in other games would be accepted and forgiven if we'd taken advantage as we should have in those 3 games imo. Last season we did, this season we haven't and I don't see it suddenly changing either.
We have 2 wins from 12, probably 2 wins from 18 after the next run of fixtures. We need to win probably 6 of the next 20 after that with a few draws mixed in. Time to get a manager who is prepared to lose matches in order to win them.

The fact that there have been so many of these ‘ifs, buts and maybes’ kind of results must mean there is a deeper problem. It can’t be coincidence that they keep happening.
The fact that we were so good at set pieces last year masked a big issue with our side in that we don’t know how to play football in open play well enough to open sides up.
Our football consists of long balls, set pieces, long shots, some counter attacking, and crosses. I would argue we aren’t particularly effective at any of them.
My conclusion is that time has to be called on defensive football. Big Sam, Benitez and Dyche managing us has been a dour period within our history. We need a new way of thinking and being within our new stadium. The potential to become a force again will be greater than it has been in the last few decades, and we need a coach/manager to match that ambition.
Re: Dyche
It's from an article by Alan Myers on Sky Sports today. No quotes, just his understanding of the current position of the club.

Re: Dyche
Haha, gotta love those insights from Teamtalk (football365, Heard in the City, whatever)! It’s my understanding that Liverpool will be relegated next season while we win the lot.
Wait. What? It was from Myers?
Re: Dyche
I think it’s safe to say that given that the ownership of the club is most likely to change next month we could all say that our understanding is that Moshiri will not be moving Dyche on, hardly an Alan Myers scoop !Free Agent wrote: ↑Mon Nov 25, 2024 12:31 pm Haha, gotta love those insights from Teamtalk (football365, Heard in the City, whatever)! Re: Dyche
That’s a long winded way to say Dyche gambles on percentages, choas, is painfully limited and has no clear coherent planAjaxAndy wrote: ↑Mon Nov 25, 2024 11:35 am It's been a season of missed opportunities for Dyche that would have made a massive difference to the perception of him had we / he taken them.

Re: Dyche
Chaos is definitely a part of it... We seem to play with a lot less aggression this season which means we don't create the same chaos as last season. You just have to look at how easily our set pieces are defended Vs last year to see how we aren't winning battles any more.
It could be that the desperate situation we found ourselves in and the siege mentality were key to fighting aggressively and without that we just don't have the same level of aggression to draw on.
He clearly can't adapt though so we've just found ourselves looking completely toothless as a result.

Re: Dyche
I know this is very cynical but he does better financially if we sack him than he does letting his contract end. You have to consider all possibilities when you can't understand why we're so fucking awful at the moment and better last season. Either way, can't wait to see the back of him.
Re: Dyche
I don't think it's anything to do with that tbh, I just think his way of working has stop being effective.Paddockoldie wrote: ↑Tue Nov 26, 2024 10:15 am I know this is very cynical but he does better financially if we sack him than he does letting his contract end. What he succeeded with previously was being aggressive and set piece goals... McNeil just doesn't bring that intensity Doucoure did in the 10 which means we have to play a more passive game, and we don't have any threat from set pieces any more because probably teams have figured out how to nullify us.
He probably though is happy to just draw our way to safety and hope we pick up the odd win as he's not really fighting for anything other than not being relegated or sacked before then. I think subconsciously it'll feed in to his 'don't lose' mentality as he's got more to lose by us being beaten than he has by to gain by us winning a match.

Re: Dyche
I'm bored of him and bored of us as a whole ATM. I go about 5 games or so a season and watch the rest on my dodgy box religiously. I've had family stuff to do for the last two weeks and this weekend, normally they would be scheduled around the match but I literally couldn't be arsed doing that at the min.Fuck them
Re: Dyche
He's also probably less incentivises right now to try stuff?
Why would he want to take a couple of hits when he has max half a season left. He's probably thinking, stay close to 1ppg, get clean sheets, and when I go I'll just shrug and quip about expectations and the position the club is in and the decision making, and walk onto my next job with my head high.
