Can’t argue with that. There’s a few exceptions but that’s the rule.

Good awareness and movement, can ping it around, is pretty snappy and can set the tempo.

When he gets more used to what his team-mates can and can't do, and what they will do in certain situations, it'll look even better.

Really good signing on first viewing.

He’s taking the ball off the CBs and trying to break lines. That’s enough for me.

Double pivot with Garner. Garner tackles/intercepts everything in sight, Hackney moves it forward. That’s the balance that makes a functioning midfield.

Nice that he can break forward when needed but the main thing I care about is that deep passing. We haven’t had it in forever and we need it badly.

Some nice touches and he's clearly been told to be the one to take it off the CBs. I think we'll see some nice passing triangles between him, Garner and KDH.

One issue though is even in that short snapshot he was bullied off the ball 3 times, he's definitely lacking in physicality

Not a loaded question as I've only seen brief highlights of both games, and he didn't appear to be involved in much from those, but intrigued from those that might've watched

Yeah, he was more active in the Hamburg game. Was very subdued yesterday.
To be honest, the whole midfield was a mess yesterday, not even sure if HH was meant to be the 6 or the 8. A couple of time he dropped between the CBs to collect a pass and looked to progress but there was zero movement in front of him, no one to pass to so he ended up playing it back to either JB or MK. Other times he’d try take on a player but again, with no one moving ahead of him, it meant he had to carry the ball repeatedly into dead ends. Not his finest game, thats for sure.

Seems to be a recurring theme with most of our players

Played much too deep yesterday needs to be picking up the ball further forward was neat and tidy nothing more

I'd imagine we'll see Hackney shine a lot more when he's got Garner or Norgaard alongside him. I can't imagine a world where Hackney / Tim is a functional midfield.
