Don't get me wrong, id moan like fuck if we didn't sign a right back, but essentially what your saying and what it appears we're doing is potentially paying over the odds and lumbering ourselves we a player that a) isn't going to get any better b) has no top flight experience in and league c) will have little to no sell on value.
If times are that hard then just go with JOB and Rohl until we can afford better. We've waited 5 years to get one, id rather wait another year and get a decent one than spend the little we have on a shit one, just cause that's all we could afford.
I know Moyes wouldn't play them, but I can't believe there aren't any youngsters coming through that we could loan, or championship players we could pick up that have potential and growth opportunity.

Just a bit frustrating all round and this type of signing would sum us up as a club atm

From my mate, Celtic STH and usually pretty straight about players and the club…

Brilliant, absolute unit, great engine, will only improve when surrounded by better players, I'm a bit gutted TBH

Apparently in terms of how he puts himself about. Anyway, he’s more like 5ft 11 😳

As a Canadian there is way too much Alistair Johnston slander going on in this thread.

Not my first choice but miles better than any RB weve had in years (which isnt saying much admittedly).

But why would you only assign 10m for a right back?? How much have we spent in these last 3 windows on positions we weren't as desperate for and to only assign 10m to a right back 13 months later. Also it sounds like he will be much more than 10m

We cant spend 20m because hes better than the array of shite weve played right back. That fact alone makes him worth at least 50p

I dont think we're spending 20 million on him.

I dont even know if he'd be a good buy, certainly not the level that the club has been talking about.

But we have people in here saying hes worse than Obrien or Patterson which is absolutely incorrect.

Concern about potential cost aside, having an actual right back who makes good right back runs and can play the standard quick right back interchanges with the winger and midfield is going to make us a MUCH better team.

I like Jake O’Brien but he can’t do any of those things well playing out of position. Got away with it during the first Moyes half-season but it started to really hurt our possession play last season.

Just to be clear I’m purely speculating that we’ve only assigned 10mil for the right back signing and that this is the fee this guy is gonna cost, I’m just saying if that’s amount we’ve assigned to this position then we aren’t gonna be getting a superstar

But that an actual functioning right back would at least let us play one of our best centre backs at centre back more rather than covering right back and would also mean that we can see less Michael Keane

Personally I would have had Right back as the main transfer priority this summer as I’ve said all along and would have happily spent £40mil on one

As the season draws nearer and I’ve started to fear us sticking with Jake O’Brien at right back and coming across the same problems again I’ve started to make peace with us not getting the right back of my dreams and realised I may have to settle for any right back. And I just don’t think this guy is gonna be as disastrous as everyone seems. Obviously there’s a chance I could be wrong
