He was very ill by this point. Not sure he deserves the blame. It was clearly Moshiri's decision.

I’m not blaming him for the decision, but ill or not, if he was truly one of us he should have stood down, staying put or silent, says he was ok with the most unpopular appointment of all time.
It was a massive insult to Evertonians. Unforgivable.

The story at the time was Usmanov was heavily involved in pushing for Benitez; makes you wonder why.

Of all the rotten decisions, and there were numerous one's of the moshiri era, this stood out like a sore thumb.
This was the prime example of an owner completely and utterly out of touch and out of his depth.
Even now what he did appointing that twat makes me want to vomit

That was indeed a truly unforgivable decision, I never thought we’d do worse than the Sam Allardyce appointment.

Also for me, the way “headlockgate” was handled by the club and the PR strategy announced before an important relegation-battle home fixture was awful and created more of a toxic atmosphere between the fans and the board.
