You don’t half stick to your guns.
What have I said there that's not true?

The 'we played better last season' line is a properly skewed version of reality because everyone remembers us not winning a game in 3 months.

AjaxAndy wrote: Fri Nov 01, 2024 8:23 am The fact we didn't win for 3 months last season sort of debunks the idea we played better all the time last season.

It could even be argued that despite not playing well we've picked up 9 points on 5 games instead of not picking up points would also suggest he'd found a way to avoid the long winless run of last season despite having largely the same players at his disposal.

I guess it all just depends on which side of this coin you want to look at it from.

I can't see where I said "all the time"? Can you?

No but you failed to recognise that we were also mega shit for a prolonged period last season with the same players... It's a skewed argument because you failed to take in to account the part where we were absolutely shit with this same set of players too.

Being shit from December to March.
Well, actually, being shit from last December to now, doesn't take away the fact we were really effective from August to December last year.

These players and this manager played a brand of football that the shogs/braps/BDs of the world don't particularly like, but was able to get the crowd invested and get points.

You're honestly just arguing for the sake of arguing now.
This manager and these players can play better football (and demonstrably have for a statistically relevant period of time).

It is the height of apologism to say these players are the dregs and can't do any better
That's the line you're arguing against.

Give me Dyche-ball over what we’re going to see from Southampton tomorrow

Has there been a post mentioning Dyche in the past year that @AjaxAndy or @777Kidnappings or both hasn't replied to in some defensive, pro-Dyche way?

I can absolutely admire a staunch defence of a position, but come on lads. If this was another walk of life, I would swear you were both on somebody's payroll.

Yes the players can play better, they have also shown they can spend a long period playing shite... It's both, not one or the other.

We're 9 games in to a season so we don't yet know if we'll be on par with last season overall until the final ball is kicked, so this may well just be one of those spells, like we had last year, where we play poorly, and we'll see better at other points of the season.

My point isn't, and never was that this team can't play better than we did against Fulham... It's that whilst people say this set of players played better last season they also played as poorly if not worse too, and at least we're picking up nearly 2 points a game over the last 5 despite not playing well, which is in stark contrast to last season where playing poorly resulted in 11 premier league matches and 1 cup match without a win.

I don't want to sit through another Fulham tomorrow, I think we all agree that we need to see something better against Southampton. Be defensively secure but have some attacking intent and ability to use the ball effectively. Most importantly win and take us to 12 points in 6 games and push further up the table.

I'd like to hear your views on parking fines, long haul flights and the genocide in Gaza.

This is where it seems like people are arguing about different things.

I don't think we played miles better football during a amazing run last season than now, we just executed the plan better and took more of our chances. This is where I think the criticism of the fulham performance is valid, not because we should have tried to match them, but because we didn't even try to play our way, we just let the game happen to us until the last 10 mins.
