All fair points, but £20m over 3/4 years worth of amortisation (if that’s still the way it works) isn’t going to break the bank.

I think this comes down to a mixture of dithering, being tight, lack of an extensive scouting network outside of the UK and perhaps a bit of bad luck as well.

By the way, outside of the RB situation, I think our business has been good. Really like Hackney and George especially, but I just genuinely cannot believe we do not have a quality RB to speak about, who should have also had most of a pre-season. It is just Groundhog Day.

Yeah it does seem weird we can identify Hackney and sign him fairly quickly yet for some reason we don't seem to be able to do so with a right back.

Maybe it's Moyes wants a certain type and the committee want another, or maybe (I think more likely) we've put so much pressure on getting the right one we over shoot our ambition and wait for players we're never going to get.

I also think we might be waiting on a sale to move on not just an RB but other targets too... We have probably expected Ndaiye to leave this summer and haven't wanted to buy a right back until we know how much we have to spend, and hope that we have a big chunk to buy someone genuinely game changing... Although we also tried to buy Johnston so who the hell knows

We really really absolutely fucking no excuses must sign one before the window shuts though, as I think there'll be pitchforks at dawn otherwise. We forgave last summer (just about) but the club won't get that slack this one.

Moyes said before the Palace game there are loads of right backs out there but he doesn't think those right backs are better than playing a non right back in the right back position.

I remain open to being proven wrong over the course of the next few seasons, but I still think spending a large chunk on an aging full back (who did have some injury issues last season too) is not the move for us. Think we need to be looking a bit more longer term as that position demands a lot of running/stamina.

After our other swap deal, I wonder if we’d entertain Trai Hume/Jake O’Brien swap?

I've not really posted much on here this summer and I'm sure you've all been awaiting my opinion with bated breath...

I like to reserve judgement until the window has shut, but with a few days left the current state of the squad is a joke. I just do not get how we consistently fail to get important signings over the line. Still having no right back is completely inexcusable.

Moyes has definitely run his course. Thank you for the first 30 games of last season. Now you can bugger off.

I would like just like joy and hope with Everton, but year on year it's often joyless and feels persistently hopeless.

I can only think that Moyes is the problem with the RB issue. Listening to his press conference, I'm quite sure the scouting/data analysis bods have presented 20 or more possible right backs to Moyes over the summer, because the need for it is glaringly obvious, Kinnear's openly acknowledged the massive need for a RB and it's been talked about endlessly by Moyes himself and in the wider media.

I think Moyes is the one vetoing 99% of them and saying some version of ''I want the best one we can get, there's no point getting a decent one because I won't play him, Merlin Rohl will stay at RB and it will be wasted money''. Putting myself in his position, I think in Moyes' mind, he'll think he's doing the best for the club and demanding high quality players. He said words to that effect today.

But it puts the recruitment team in quite a difficult position because they are thinking ''we've got a choice of 3 good RBs we can sign here, but this narky bastard won't play any of them out of spite, just to make a point, because it's not the exact one he wants''.

And if Kinnear says to him ''listen we're getting you this RB and you absolutely will play him'', Moyes will walk out of the door immediatedly.

I know that's what plenty of fans want overall, but at this stage, that would be an absolute disaster and blow up the season. A new manager coming in at this point would be on a hiding to nothing, with no pre-season, no transfer window etc.

And the sad thing about it is that we've started the season very nicely, we've got a load of exciting young footballers who are improving, our striker has bagged 4 goals in 2 games, our new signing has a goal and an assist immediately and everyone should be buzzing.
