It’s a necessary signing in order to keep Pickford on his toes and cover any games where needed. But JP is in his prime now and will be for at least the next 2/3 years, so it’s very unlikely Travers is anything but a backup.

Bit of a strange one from Travers perspective but perhaps we are offering him more money for essentially the same role

Probably a case of having to get certain deals done so we know where we stand with PSR before getting more expensive deals done.

It's not sexy but we desperately needed a decent backup GK and someone to complete with Beto so these were actually key signings.

Looks like we're actively pursuing Douglas Luiz and an RW so I'm not at all nervous. Fully expect another signing in the next week, maybe two.

At least Douglas Luiz seems serious at this stage for CM. Assuming Tim is off on loan then unless Armstrong pulls out a convincing pre-season, we'll need another CM on top of that. Suppose that could be a loan at the end of the window.

RB they got done by Tete, though it would be nice to be properly linked with someone else. None of the wingers we've been linked to seem to have much credence.

Our spending this summer could just be Barry, Travers and (hopefully) Luiz. We should spend money on a RB but I wouldn't be surprised if it was a loan made soon. Fullback cover, another CM and a winger... could see some late loans.

As you say, even that feels quite a small squad. Ramsey might be an additional player on top of that if there is much in today's link as I can't imagine we'll go into the season without replacing Doucoure even if Alcaraz is here.

IF our summer spending does turn out to only be those 4 players and its a big IF, then signing Branthwaite to a new 5 year deal rather than actively selling him to raise funds and help improve the side would be very short sighted. But I think (hope) that it is just the slowness of it all that's causing us to panic and as Cantoffee has pointed out, no first team signings have been made yet. We will bring in those 3 key areas and then pad the side out with loans... We'll be laughing about how much we flapped come September.

There could be any number of reasons that we're still waiting on some areas to be strengthened.

It might be that the player we want for RW or CM won't be available til the selling club have secured their replacement, and we just have to wait. It might be that we're negotiating quite hard, as we seem to be doing generally.

It would be lovely to get the key transfers in early, and settled into the pre-season plans, but I'd rather us do our business meticulously and get the players we want rather than overpaying wildly or just getting the 3rd choice player in for that position because it can be done quickly.

I still feel relatively calm because David Moyes is the one overseeing it, and he will be well aware of what we need. If this was Dyche, Lampard, or Benitez in charge, I'd be drinking flappucinos every morning. Moyes knows where our glaring weaknesses are.

We just have to be patient and we won't be able to judge the window properly til August/September as frustrating as it is waiting.

So would expect at least 2 more actual purchases. Would imagine they will be at the £30m+ levels as well - so will be adding £100m to the books over the next few years with a recouping of £3.4 for Maupay!

That's going to eat up the majority of the new stadiums revenue increase. Need to start figuring out a way to generate sales each year going forward.
