Re: The Rebuild
Just a shame it’ll be on deadline day and we’ll have wasted three winnable games with a makeshift squad…

Starting as we are right now or playing the whole season like this?brap2 wrote: We start the season as we are, where do we finish?
We have maybe 14 actual players, and from them 3-4 are worst case scenario, manager doesn't fancy them, don't think they will actually play much really type guys.
Even with this current squad I could see us picking up four or five points from the opening games.
Pickford
O’Brien Tarks Branthwaite Myko
Garner. Gana
McNeil. Alcaraz. Ndiaye
Beto
That’s enough for the opening games if it means we take our time and get the right players for the long term
Re: The Rebuild
Exactly, and that is worst case scenario (ignoring potential injuries). The season starts in 4 weeks. Plenty of time.StirlingBlue wrote: ↑Tue Jul 15, 2025 5:15 am Starting as we are right now or playing the whole season like this?

Re: The Rebuild
Think you need one or two more to be in having a pre season so they’re fully up to speed by the time the season comes.
Douglas Luiz for example. If he’s a serious target then it’s probably best to overpay slightly on a loan fee to get him in so he’s ready to start.
Otherwise you have a player coming near the end of the window (which often happens with loans) needing weeks to get fully fit.
Can’t start the season with what we have. Need at least two more additions.

Agreed. I'm sure we'll get those 1 or 2, and probably in the next week or two with more to follow. I just think it's too early to be worried, unfortunately we aren't in a position where we can't pick and choose, so we have to go through the motions of players rejecting us for other clubs and working our way through the shortlist. We'll get there, as frustrating as it is waiting and constantly checking this thread.TheRam wrote: ↑Tue Jul 15, 2025 5:45 am Think you need one or two more to be in having a pre season so they’re fully up to speed by the time the season comes.

I really hope we end up with Douglas Luiz, great player.

Re: The Rebuild
Was on loan there last season playing 26 games so can understand why he'd want to stay there over coming here.
Re: The Rebuild
Ideally we need 1 or 2 first teamers signed before we jet off to the USA.
The actual bolstering and filling out of the squad can happen near the end of the window or deadline day, utilising loans and frees.
We need a good 3 or 4 first teamers who we expect to start for us in well before the season starts.

Re: The Rebuild
It feels like forever since we kicked off a season without some major gaps in the starting eleven... This actually looks far better than anything we've had for years though.StirlingBlue wrote: ↑Tue Jul 15, 2025 5:15 am Starting as we are right now or playing the whole season like this?

We need more player in, and I definitely agree with those who say it needs to happen soon because otherwise they miss vital pre-season time, but we're not in half as bad shape with that lineup as we have been in previous years.
Add a CM and RW, both of which we seem to be actively trying to get deals done for and that'd do us for the time being. Then anything else would be fine to wait until later in the window if needs be for good deals or loans.
Re: The Rebuild
That 11 is alright, though still lacking pace. The bench though
Tyrer (unless the Bournemouth keeper is signed)
Patterson/Coleman
Keane
Iroebunam
Armstrong
Chermitti
Barry
Coleman/Patterson
That's it, that's the squad

Re: The Rebuild
Squad depth is the major issue. Looking forward to us bringing in quality and quantity over the next 2/3 weeks.
As long as we bring in the right players, I am relaxed on timing.
Moyes will be starting the usual XI in the first 2/3 games anyway no matter who comes in - that’s just his style. That will give the new members of the squad time to get up to speed and settle in
